'Ghost of a woman' photographed in Alcatraz

Credit: Meburian / CC BY-SA 3.0 (adapted) Situated in San Francisco Bay and home to a notorious abandoned prison that was once believed to be inescapable, Alcatraz is today a popular destination for visitors from all over the world who come to wander its abandoned jail cells and corridors.

In addition to its historical significance Alcatraz has also long been considered to be one of the most haunted locations in America with tales of evil spirits, sightings of apparitions and a feeling of dread that is said to permeate the island.Now a tourist couple from England believe that they've managed to capture evidence that something really does still lurk within the prison after a photograph they took through the door of one of the cells seemed to show the figure of a mysterious woman inside. There had been nobody there at the time and the couple have been unable to explain how the figure turned up on the image.
