Vatican considers alien life

The Vatican's top astronomer has commented on the possibility of extraterrestrial life following a week long astrobiology conference saying that alien life could exist but that there is no hard evidence for it.

ET could exist, but there is no hard evidence he does, the Vatican's top astronomer declared at the end of a Vatican conference on extraterrestrial life.

...this makes news? Given their storied history, it is still amusing that the Vatican has a "top astronomer". Certainly, the church has advanced beyond the repressive, ignorant past, I know, but it still makes me chuckle. It also makes me chuckle that the "top astronomer"...

AM I the only one who finds it odd that the church says to it's congregation, it's possible to believe in extraterretrial life and activity. BUT still doesn't condone their congregation something basic such as using condoms?
