Human evolution: the shrinking brain

It is a common minsconception that humans have stopped evolving in recent times, one example of this is the fact that our brains have actually been shrinking over the last 5000 years.
Evolution in humans is commonly thought to have essentially stopped in recent times. But there are plenty of examples that the human race is still evolving, including our brains, and there are even signs that our evolution may be accelerating.

I'm tempted to write something really snarky, but I won't. Actually, I thought it would be the other way around. Maybe I've been watching too much Star Trek.

I didnt think CPUs necessarily mean the smaller the better they have just strived to make the smaller because its better for fitting them in things. You still get large processors, or loads of processors all joined together for more power.

Knowing brain size alone tells us next to nothing, really. We'd need to know density, composition, distribution. This is some overview for people who aren't quite in the sceince know, like a lot of the articles that count as "news" these days. Most of them are simply reviews of **** we already know that just hasn't made it into the interests of the general public.

I would think that the smaller our brains get the dumber we are. Isn't it the ratio of body size to brain size account for an animals intelligence? The human brain has the biggest ratio to body size on earth, next to use are the dolphins who most people agree are probably the most intelligent animals on earth. If this is true then i can definitely see evidence now of our future generation dumbing down

Yes and our brain sizes have increased as we have evolved so it definately has something to do with intelligence. Either its getting more efficient or we are dumbing down. It raises some interesting questions.

You can agree all you want, it is simply wrong. Brains may superficially function like a processor, but they don't work in the same way (and are far more complex) and brains have a lot more general function to them than just neurons. making the brain smaller won't alter the signal transmission speed, it won't make you smarter and it won't make you more efficient. Sorry but you hypothesis doesn't stand up. Oh what Im not allowed to have an opinion here without you telling me that Im wrong....I dont give a crap if Im wrong or not and you dont have to make me look like a retard for voicing my opi... Makes sense... We are out sourcing some of our brain functions as technology advances. ....and becoming sensory retarded. Lapiche
