A species of wild cat has been documented mimicking the calls of monkeys to help it hunt them down as prey.
In a fascinating example of vocal mimicry, researchers from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and UFAM (Federal University of Amazonas) have documented a wild cat species imitating the call of its intended victim: a small, squirrel-sized monkey known as a pied tamarin.

Poor monkeys?..Really?........let me know what you think about "monkeys" and their families after watching this..... First, chimps aren't monkeys. Secondly, are you at all aware that humans hunt too, and that we do it better than chimps? Chimps hunting means nothing, other than that they are smart enough to do so.

First, chimps aren't monkeys. Secondly, are you at all aware that humans hunt too, and that we do it better than chimps? Chimps hunting means nothing, other than that they are smart enough to do so. This was my point is all....Everything needs to eat.....I am aware humans hunt , I have been bow hunting for over 25 years , so yes , I think humans hunt, and I am probably aware we do it better than chimps...I am glad you posted that though , so some others may learn something from your post...... The only reason I posted that was more to show the people saying "poor monkeys" that even Chimps ( did... [More]

I'm sorry if offended, 'twas not my goal. I thought you were trying to suggest that because of their bestial nature, they were not worthy of protection, which I think is, at best, a very poor argument. The only reason I posted that was more to show the people saying "poor monkeys" that even Chimps ( ... [More]

Bow hunting is very cool. I consider it to be more honourable than hunting with gunpowder weaponry. Congrats on the effort learning must have taken, friend. Thank You , and I can not agree more....It took a lot of hands on training for tracking , learning habits , etc.....I wish I could post all of the things I was able to witness in the wild , while camoue'd out , scent block on , etc......I should have taken a camera with me when I went out......It taught me a lot , and re-enforced my respect for nature..... Off subject , I can not stand people who hunt with dogs , bait , traps , etc.....Rif... [More]

I doubt it heavily. You don't exit a family. You just come to a point where cross-breeding is impossible. I think that's a long way off, in any case. Well, the idea is that they may be developing as a separate species rather than a subspecies.

Well, the idea is that they may be developing as a separate species rather than a subspecies. I am aware of what was meant. I just disagree. I do not think they are speciating. They may be isolated, they may not breed much with other kinds of tiger, if at all, but speciation is a LONG way off. Look how long tiger and lions have been seperated. And they can still breed, even if the offspring are infertile. It'll be a long time before (any) tiger + (any) tiger infants are infertile.

Maybe generically throwing out the word family on this topic was a poor choice. I don't imagine anyone expects them to wander out of the Genus Panthera. ... [More]

I'm confused by the relation to Lions and/or breeding. Maybe generically throwing out the word family on this topic was a poor choice. I don't imagine anyone expects them to wander out of the Genus Panthera. But rather to be started down the path of eventually becoming a fifth member of the Panthera branch. Not that the population is likely to start going up anytime soon anyway. Sadly I expect them to be one of the next species to disappear from this planet. I'm not suggesting people think that, lol! I just mean that even animals as disparate as lions and tigers CAN breed, and at one point mus... [More]
