A woman has lost four stone after being hypnotised in to believing that she's had a gastric band fitted.
There was no pain, no risk of infection, no anaesthetic, no recovery period afterwards, and all at only a fraction of the £7,000 such surgery would usually cost.

I don't believe Hypnotherapy works. the woman in this story is just one of those people who needed convincing, you know, like hypochondriacs who go to the doctors to be convinced the tablets work.

For you American people.... Four Stone is 56 pounds. A "stone" is 14 pounds. well, there are many different sizes of stones here in American. Surely you see why we get confused!

It didn't work on me when I went to see if it would help me stop smoking. I had a couple of friends that hynosis worked for in smoking cessation. There were some different methods.... for one friend, the hypnosis didn't stop her from buying cigs and lighting them up... but once she did light up, it tasted to her like pork n beans, which was the flavor she hated most in her life. She'd take one drag, mutter something about it tasting awful, and put it out. After about 4 weeks, the suggestion started wearing off... sometimes it would taste like porn n beans, other times it wouldn't... so she kep... [More]

I don't believe Hypnotherapy works. it only works for people who are willing to let it work. i would like to learn hypnosis I would hypnotise my dad to stop smoking and drinking, maybe to stop snoring if its possible. and hypnotise my mum to stop her talking all the time there's a mythbusters episode when they done stuff with hypnosis, i recommend you watch it sometime. it shows the difference between a crap hypnotist and a good one.

I think you'd have to be someone who is not only suggestable as Mel said in the first reply, but also someone who is willing to be believe in it. I'm half and half belief-wise on this. I do think it's a wonderful alternative to having the actual surgery done and could work for a great many people who are in dire need of losing weight. Good on her I say!

I am not saying that hypnothearapy does not work, but i dont see the differance between getting sombody to hypnotise you into beliveing somthing as opposed to just saying "right, cmon, your getting fat, LOOK at you, positivly corpulent, so from now on, i will eat healthly and do 30 mins of exercise per day". Its just a question of will power, i put on half a stone of weight over the Christmas period, i did not like it, so i simple stopped eating cakes, crisps, beers, snacks, ate Porridge made ith water and low fat mnilk for breakfast every day (no sugar or honey), salad and wholemean bread/sou...
