Blindness cause clue discovered

A team of scientists have discovered the enzyme which causes age related macular degeneration.
Macular degeneration is a form of age related blindness which affects many people as they get older. It occurs when the macula of the eye, which is responsible for the fine details in the centre of our vision, becomes diseased. International researchers have discovered an enzyme linked to the occurrence and progress of this disease which they hope will lead to a cure.The researchers noticed the enzyme DICER1 was less active in the retina of people with the more common "dry form" of the illness and when they turned off the gene which makes the enzyme in mice, then the animal's retina cells were damaged.
