Image Credit: Image After The ISIS Paranormal Investigations team was called upon to visit a private home located in Schenevus, New York after the owner’s of the home reported unexplained paranormal activity. The paranormal activity reported in the home included reports of doors opening and closing without human aid, the sighting of apparitions, unexplained burning sensations, the unexplained appearance of scratch marks on various individuals visiting the home and living in the home, and the television turning on and off by itself. Additional reports included the sighting of a glowing white light in an empty bathroom; when the client went to check to see what the source of the light was the light disappeared. The clients reported being able to hear whispers from an unexplained source, footsteps and loud banging/thudding in the upstairs of the location when no one was on the upstairs level, and the female head of the household as well as her son were pushed down the stairs by an unseen force on several occasions.

Interview
We have elected to keep the family anonymous to protect the family and children. We will identify the female head of the household as Karen 27, the male head of the household as Devon, and three children as Timmy 11, Christine 2, and Tom 6. Karen’s brother Brad, 27, also stays at the location from time to time. Before moving their family into the home, Karen was told about the home from a friend of hers. Karen visited the home for the first time and she had a creepy feeling about the place but kept her feelings to herself. Later that night she returned home and had a nightmare about the house that they now reside in. Karen dreamed that she and her daughter were in the home and her daughter was a bit older than she is now. In the dream there was a man in the window and when Karen spotted the man, she grabbed her daughter and went running upstairs into the upstairs bathroom. In the dream Karen locked the door and she hid her daughter in the cabinet under the sink; the man broke into the house and attacked and killed Karen in her dream. Karen told her husband about the dream, but after discussing the advantages of being in such a large home, against her better judgment Karen agreed to move into the house.
In addition to the activity reported above, the clients reported to the ISIS team that on one occasion, a toy Hess truck that was resting on a shelf in an upstairs bedroom flew off the wall. People that would visit the home would come in and complain about sensations of “burning” for no apparent reason at all. On several other occasions, people that visited the home would be scratched by something unseen, with so much force that the scratches would draw blood. The scratches would appear in configurations of three. So much activity went on in the home that Karen asserts that it became possible to sense when something would happen.
Karen and some friends decided that they would conduct their own paranormal investigation on the property. After watching a television show to see how evps were collected, Karen left a tape recorder running in the house on the first floor of the home for the night. She has provided this tape to our team and the evps that are on the tape are offered in our evp gallery. Karen took some pictures of the outside of the location and explained that some of the photographs taken captured something in the front window of the home:
“We got a picture of something we didn’t really care to see. It was not human, and it had sharp teeth, and it peeked around the side of the window. We had one photo where it was coming toward the window and another photo where it was backing away from the window. It was like it knew what we were doing. It had sharp teeth and it almost looked like a smegal, like a gargoyle or something….I sent the picture to others on the computer to see if it could be enhanced. The thing that freaked me out is that people were coming back and telling me, that the picture was three dimensional with its own shadow. Those who received the image were so disturbed by it that they destroyed it.”
The photograph was associated with other events that occurred off the initial property:
“A friend of mine had it [the photo] and she was showing it to a girlfriend on the hood of her car and she went home that night and got a phone call that somehow, in the middle of the night, her car had caught on fire from the hood back. And she totally believes that it was from the picture. She was completely afraid. It was petrifying.”
The owners of the home have resided at the location for a period of 1.5 years and the home was built in the early 1900s. The home owners had the home blessed by a pastor in February of 2009, and the blessing proved to quiet down the activity for a period of time. The activity picked up again right before Halloween/Samhain. When the home was blessed the pastor had advised the clients not to give the activity in the home any attention and to destroy any evidence that had been collected in regard to the paranormal activity in question, including any photographs she had gathered. Karen did as instructed and destroyed a number of photographs, including the one mentioned above. After showing the photos to the pastor she was told to “Get rid of that immediately.” Still, all efforts to ignore the activity came to naught because the activity would increase until anyone present couldn’t help but take notice and react.
On four of five different occasions, Karen and her husband Devon have just picked up the family and left the home because the paranormal activity had gotten so bad. Karen reported occasions when she and her husband could hear footsteps, thudding, and things knocking around upstairs when no one was upstairs at all. Karen also reported that a couple of days before our visit to the home she had stepped out of the shower and saw a glowing white light behind the door of the bathroom. Frightened, she fled the bathroom and went to her husband and told him that there was someone or something in the bathroom. Trying to reassure his wife, Devon told her that there was nobody in the bathroom and he went to the bathroom to check. When he entered there was nothing present.
On more than one occasion, Karen has been pushed down the stairs at the location by an “energy force.” The evening before our arrival involved the most recent physical attack by an unseen force. Karen explained that as hard as she tried to maintain her position on the stairs, the “energy force,” won and pushed her down with considerable force. Karen states: “I was holding onto the railings as I was skidding on my feet, it was like I was trying to hold on for dear life, and I couldn’t…I couldn’t keep myself up.” Due to the most recent incident, Karen suffered swelling of the arm and multiple bruises. We have a photograph of the bruising that Karen suffered from in our photo gallery. One of her children has endured similar attacks and has been pushed down the stairs as well.
Devon has experienced problems with the light downstairs in the home, and Karen and others have heard whispers in the home. During one event, Karen was home with her daughter when she heard whispering and she told the entity or entities: “I don’t want to see you. You’re not allowed to touch me. Don’t touch me.” She then heard what sounded like balls bouncing around in the upstairs level of the home. Karen reports that both her and her husband have also heard moaning, crying, growling, strange ticking noises, rappings, banging, and Karen asserts that it seems like every day that something happens in the home.
During one encounter, Karen was walking from the living room into the kitchen and she glanced up the staircase: all she could see was a partial apparition consisting of the bottom of legs and boots. From the angle she was standing at along the base of the staircase, if anyone was upstairs it would be impossible to see the entire person’s body, but no one should have been upstairs at the time. Karen, shocked by what she saw, backed up several steps. When she composed herself she stepped forward again only to find that what she saw had disappeared. An examination of the upstairs revealed no one on the upstairs level of the home.
During another paranormal encounter which caused Karen’s daughter to become terrified of entering her brother’s bedroom. Karen’s daughter, son, and nephew were playing in the boy’s bedroom. Karen went upstairs to check on the three children and they were playing with a Hess truck that was positioned high on a shelf in the room. Karen questioned her daughter and asked her how she got the toy truck and the daughter responded “monsters.” Later on, Karen went upstairs to clean and her daughter came running out of her brother’s bedroom, terribly frightened. The child told her mother: “Mommy, Mommy, I’m scared. Timmy’s room, Timmy’s room, the monster is in it!” Karen led the child downstairs and passed it off believing that she might have seen something but that the child was so little that she might not have realized what she was seeing. After the incident, Karen went upstairs to vacuum and when she went to enter Timmy’s bedroom, her daughter Christine just clung to her and refused to enter her brother’s bedroom.
Another incident occurred involving Tom, the 6 year-old boy was watching television when he came running out of the living room and told his mother: “Mommy, I saw a shadow man.” The mother questioned the child, “What’s a shadow man?” The child had great difficulty explaining what he saw and the mother was surprised by the child’s description of the events in question.
The entire family has been sleeping in one room because the children have become so fearful of the ongoing paranormal events. The children have to be accompanied by their mother to shower or use the bathroom due to their fear, and the mother has had to remain standing in the doorway with her back turned so that the children can maintain their privacy. In fact, the children will not go out into the kitchen to get a drink by themselves and an adult has to be with them all the time because they have become so frightened.
Other Witnesses:
As far as Karen’s brother Brad, he has had experiences in the home but he prefers not to discuss what he has experienced. Karen has a close friend named Craig who wanted to be present during our investigation to share with us some of his experiences in the home. The day prior to our arrival, anything that could go wrong did. Craig’s car broke down. He attempted to repair the vehicle, but to no avail. He contacted someone for a ride so he could be present for the interview. Craig and another friend, Sandy have not seen apparitions in the home, but he has seen lights flickering on and off, he has heard toilets flushing by themselves, and both have heard footsteps upstairs. Craig felt hands on his shoulders in the upstairs bathroom during one event and when he took off his shirt there were actual handprints on his back. Photos were taken of the handprints, but again, upon the pastor’s advice, such photos were destroyed before they could be documented. On another occasion, Craig and Karen were discussing some of the events that occurred in the home and Craig felt “an intense burning on his right calf.” He initially tried to ignore the discomfort, but when he could no longer do so he pulled up his pant leg to find scratches: one that was roughly four inches long and bleeding and two short, less severe scratches next to the longer scratch running down his leg.
Additional Case Information:
Karen is presently a stay at home mother, and her husband Devon works outside of the home. The family has no pets. Karen maintains a belief in God but as far as religion goes she is non-denominational. As mentioned earlier, she did have the home blessed by her pastor. After our investigation we conducted a clearing of the home upon the request of the homeowner. There have been no other groups that have investigated the home and the home has never been reported in any media events.
No one in the home takes any kinds of medication, no one has used herbal remedies, and no one has used herbs in an effort to have visions. Karen has an interest in the paranormal and she has watched paranormal television shows like Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters a lot. Her interest in the paranormal increased due to her own experiences. Karen is also a fan of horror movies, but she doesn’t read books on the paranormal.
No Ouija board has been used on the premises and no séances were conducted in the home. However, as a child around eight or nine years of age, Karen and her cousin had a bad experience with an Ouija board. Karen reports that when she was a child her cousin “dabbled in black magick,” and she has a vivid memory of sitting in a circle with her cousin and some other children. Her cousin was “praying to something with some candles and some fire” and Karen vividly remembers seeing a face through the fire. She also remembers another incident where she and some friends made an Ouija board and were using it. The board had told them that one of them would die when they were 21. During this event, a girl that was present during the session “went crazy, grabbed a knife, wanted to kill people, was lying on the floor shaking up and down.” This deterred Karen from ever wanting to use a Ouija again.
The home has undergone extensive renovations and is still in the process of being renovated. Karen, had also conducted some historical research on the home in an effort to determine what might be behind the ongoing paranormal activity at the location. She discovered that one of the previous owners had died in the home after having a heart attack on the property. The former owner, after being on hospice for a period of time passed away in the living room of the home.
History of the Location:
Schenevus is a small hamlet in the town of Maryland; the hamlet is situated in the south eastern corner of Otsego County in New York. The town of Maryland is comprised of several hamlets including Chaseville, Elk Creek, Hooker Mountain, Maryland, and Schenevus. The hamlet of Schenevus is a mere twenty five minutes from Cooperstown, and the location was first settled in the year 1793. Originally called Jacksonboro, when the town first started out it consisted of several grit mills, sawmills, a tannery and a copper shop. It wasn’t until 1848 that the town’s name was changed from Jacksonboro to Schenevus. The township of Maryland was established in the year 1808, and there is a main waterway that flows southwest and that runs through the towns of Schenevus, Chaseville, and Maryland called Schenevus Creek.
Photographic Captures
Images of orbs were captured in the basement but were discounted due to the insulation present in the location. Karen had fresh bruises from being pushed down the stairs from an unseen force and we took photos of her injuries which have been included in our gallery. The team feels that it is tremendously unfortunate that invaluable paranormal evidence was potentially lost due to the advice that the client received to destroy such evidence before our visit to the location. No other photos were captured during this investigation.
Video Footage:
No video footage was captured in regard to this case.
EVPs Readings:
The team captured a number of EVPs at the investigation ranging from class A to class C. On the first level of the home, the team captured evps with rappings and unexplained scratching noises. Also on the first level of the home, an evp appears where an investigator asks “What is your purpose here.” The evp sample is a response that states: “it’s a secret.” Additional evps were captured on the second level of the home including evps with sing-songy responses and strange drumming in the background. No music was playing during our investigation in the home and no electronics were in use at the time. You can listen to all of the evps captured by our team as well as the evps captured by the client before our visit in our EVP gallery.
EMF Readings:
During our interview with the client Justyn's emf meter went off in his pocket despite the fact that he wasn't moving and there was nothing mundane that could set the detector off. Craig, a friend of the client, was standing next to Justyn and told him, "Something just moved past us." The emf meter then went off. Justyn pulled the meter from his pocket and set it on the dining room table where it continued to go off at a reading of 4 Milligauss. There were no electrical sources near Justyn at the time. Just prior to this event an evp is captured during the interview. Patricia is talking to the client about unexplained illnesses and their connection to paranormal activity. A class A, aggressive evp appears hissing: "We're in the air."
Temperature Fluctuations
At 10:50 am a temperature sample was taken in the upstairs bedroom belonging to Timmy. The room’s initial base reading was at 65 degrees Fahrenheit. A temperature increase was noted moments later to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and the temperature continued to rapidly increase to 74 degrees before returning to 65 degrees and stabilizing. According to the client, activity has been duly noted in this room of the home and the children are fearful of the room.
At 10:54 am Justyn took a temperature sample in Timmy’s room. Interestingly, the temperature near the ceiling of the location read 68 degrees Fahrenheit and the temperature near the floor of the room was 71 degrees despite the fact that heat naturally rises. There were no identified drafts in the room that could explain this incident.
At 11:05 am a temperature over the child’s bed read 62 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature dropped to 57.5 degrees Fahrenheit was detected. A pendulum was used in the same area which began spinning widdershins.
At 11:14 am a temperature sample was taken in the small bedroom adjacent to the upstairs bathroom. The reading captured was 54 degrees Fahrenheit. This room proved to be nearly six to seven degrees cooler than all the other rooms in the home, even rooms in the lower levels of the house.
At 11:45 am, an investigator took a temperature reading in the kitchen. The baseline reading was 68 degrees Fahrenheit which rapidly dropped to 60 degrees at 11:50 am without explanation before returning to 68 degrees once more.
Dowsing Rods:
At 10:47 am Patricia was using dowsing rods in Timmy’s room when the dowsing rod began spinning. Justyn took up his dowsing rods and both rods pointed directly toward Patricia where she was experiencing activity in the room at the time. At that time, the investigators had no knowledge of the events that had occurred in the room in question.
Pendulum Readings:
At 11:05 am a pendulum reading was performed over the child’s bed in Timmy’s room which began spinning widdershins.
At 11:45 am a pendulum was used in the living room of the location and it began swinging widdershins indicating negative energies at the location.
At 11:50 am, a pendulum was used in the kitchen area where a temperature drop was detected. The pendulum began to swing widdershins slowly suggesting the presence of negative energies.
Psychic Impressions and Artistry:
Upon our arrival at the location Angela Kaufman notes her initial psychic impressions of the location. Angela notes: “I sensed a strong, negative, dense, energy surrounding the house and oozing out of it and encircling the location.” Angela also notes that a number of unexplained events occurred to her or around her in the days preceding our arrival at the location. First, a set of chimes broke in her home unexpectedly and without explanation. She also began hearing noises in her home that had no explainable cause and she experienced a number of malfunctions with the electronics in her home.
Patricia and Dayna did an initial walk through of the home before the team was permitted to enter the location. Both investigators noted a significant heavy and oppressive feeling in the upstairs of the location, particularly in Timmy’s room, which made it tremendously difficult to breathe. Neither of the investigators had knowledge of the events occurring in that room at the time.
At 10:30 am Justyn Staley notes feeling the onset of nausea and the sensation of being watched by something from upstairs. This correlates with complaints later made by the client and Justyn had no knowledge of the client’s experiences at the time.
At 10:33 am, Angela notes that she sensed “a striking and unusual sensation coming from the dining room mirror.”
10:35 am, Angela Kaufman, psychic sketch artist notes, “While in the dining room of the location I was setting up for a drawing session. My left knee began to hurt – this has long been a weak spot for me and it acts up in the presence of very negative energy. At this time, another investigator took a temperature reading and spoke it aloud; the room was 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite this fact, Angela reports the sensation of “freezing.”
At 10:39 Justyn Staley entered Timmy’s bedroom in the upstairs of the location. He notes that he felt like he was “pushed toward the window, and he further reports feeling unusually cold.” This report correlates with the reports later offered by the client suggesting that they were pushed by an unseen force in the home on more than one occasion.
At 10:40 am, Angela steps into the kitchen, just passing through the room to head to the upstairs of the location and reports experiencing unexplained dizziness. Angela notes: “I felt a dense energy and I felt weighted down.”
At 10:41 am, Angela notes that she senses an entity in the upstairs of the location in Timmy’s room. Angela writes in her notes “an older woman with dark curly hair – looks angry/unhappy and has her arms folded. The sketch is provided in our photo gallery for viewing.
At 10:47 am, while in Timmy’s room, Angela notes that she sensed “ an older, heavy set man, a farmer.” She sensed that the spirit was separate from the other negative entities that she sensed at the location.
At 10:55 am, Angela notes that while in Timmy’s room she “felt a strong feeling of pull like a magnet toward the child’s closet.”
At 10:58 am, Angela was sitting on the floor near a child’s bed which had been placed in the Master bedroom. She reports feeling sudden and extreme pain in both knees without explanation. Her notes also reveal that she sensed that a spirit at the location was attracted to a “young, dark haired boy. The spirit is meddlesome and attracts negative.” None of the client’s children were present at the home during our investigation and Angela had no prior knowledge of what the children in the home looked like before documenting this report.
At 11:01 upon entering Christine’s bedroom, Justyn notes feeling “a heavy, oppressive feeling in the chest.” Justyn used the dowsing rods in the room and they proceeded to spin in his hands; the left rod moved widdershins and the right dowsing rod moved deosil.
At 11:04 am, after entering the Master bedroom, Angela sketched an image of a Native American that she sensed holding a “staff or walking stick.” Three minutes later she reports feeling light-headed in the same location.
At 11:16 am, Justyn reports in his notes “the sensation of being watched from the small bedroom adjacent to the bathroom in the upstairs of the location.”
At 11:35 am, Justyn’s camera failed while another investigator was collecting evp samples in the dining room.
At 11:45 am, one of our investigators noted the sensation of being watched from something unseen while in the living room of the location. This assertion correlates with reports later shared with us by the client.
During the clearing of the home, one of our investigators had a vision experience where they saw a “non human looking being with fangs, red eyes, and the being was screaming.” At the time of the experience the investigator had no knowledge of the photographs that the clients had at one time captured of a similarly described creature/entity in the upstairs of the location.
Issues with Equipment:
At 10:40 am the video camera was set up in Timmy’s room and turned on to record. Roughly three minutes later the camera battery died and had to be plugged into an outlet in order for it to work.
Other Unexplained Events Reported by Investigators:
The ISIS team performed a clearing in the home. During the clearing Karen and several of her friends remained on the couch in the living room. Karen attempted to pray during the clearing and could not. She felt as if she was suffocating. After this incident, as the clearing continued, Karen wanted to tell our team to leave and to laugh at everyone who was attempting to pray in the home. Her pupils dilated despite being in a room with excessive lighting. This event was witnessed by all of our investigators and the other people present. She states: “I was having mean thoughts that were not my own. My hold body was tingling; I can’t believe or describe the experience.” Karen was visibly shaken by the experience, and she stepped outside of the home to recover. Upon her return she was physically fine but still visibly shaken by the event. In addition, right after the clearing, Craig became physically ill and ran into the bathroom and began vomiting. After becoming ill, the individual recovered and was physically fine.
At 12:10 am, upon entering the basement of the location to take photos and collect evps, an unexplained sulfur smell was identified by all investigators and one other witness. There was no explanation for the smell and the witness, a friend of the homeowner, assured us that the smell was never present before.
Conclusions: Haunted.
Given the history of events, the multiple witness reports, the positive evp findings, and our experiences at the location, we feel safe in concluding that the home is active for paranormal activity. We conducted a clearing in the home and will remain in touch with the client to see how the client is doing after our investigation and clearing. If any further updates are warranted we will add them to this write up accordingly.

On more than one occasion, Karen has been pushed down the stairs at the location by an “energy force.” The evening before our arrival involved the most recent physical attack by an unseen force. Karen explained that as hard as she tried to maintain her position on the stairs, the “energy force,” won and pushed her down with considerable force. Karen states: “I was holding onto the railings as I was skidding on my feet, it was like I was trying to hold on for dear life, and I couldn’t…I couldn’t keep myself up.” Due to the most recent incident, Karen suffered swelling of the arm and multiple bruises. We have a photograph of the bruising that Karen suffered from in our photo gallery. One of her children has endured similar attacks and has been pushed down the stairs as well.
Devon has experienced problems with the light downstairs in the home, and Karen and others have heard whispers in the home. During one event, Karen was home with her daughter when she heard whispering and she told the entity or entities: “I don’t want to see you. You’re not allowed to touch me. Don’t touch me.” She then heard what sounded like balls bouncing around in the upstairs level of the home. Karen reports that both her and her husband have also heard moaning, crying, growling, strange ticking noises, rappings, banging, and Karen asserts that it seems like every day that something happens in the home.
During one encounter, Karen was walking from the living room into the kitchen and she glanced up the staircase: all she could see was a partial apparition consisting of the bottom of legs and boots. From the angle she was standing at along the base of the staircase, if anyone was upstairs it would be impossible to see the entire person’s body, but no one should have been upstairs at the time. Karen, shocked by what she saw, backed up several steps. When she composed herself she stepped forward again only to find that what she saw had disappeared. An examination of the upstairs revealed no one on the upstairs level of the home.
During another paranormal encounter which caused Karen’s daughter to become terrified of entering her brother’s bedroom. Karen’s daughter, son, and nephew were playing in the boy’s bedroom. Karen went upstairs to check on the three children and they were playing with a Hess truck that was positioned high on a shelf in the room. Karen questioned her daughter and asked her how she got the toy truck and the daughter responded “monsters.” Later on, Karen went upstairs to clean and her daughter came running out of her brother’s bedroom, terribly frightened. The child told her mother: “Mommy, Mommy, I’m scared. Timmy’s room, Timmy’s room, the monster is in it!” Karen led the child downstairs and passed it off believing that she might have seen something but that the child was so little that she might not have realized what she was seeing. After the incident, Karen went upstairs to vacuum and when she went to enter Timmy’s bedroom, her daughter Christine just clung to her and refused to enter her brother’s bedroom.
Another incident occurred involving Tom, the 6 year-old boy was watching television when he came running out of the living room and told his mother: “Mommy, I saw a shadow man.” The mother questioned the child, “What’s a shadow man?” The child had great difficulty explaining what he saw and the mother was surprised by the child’s description of the events in question.
The entire family has been sleeping in one room because the children have become so fearful of the ongoing paranormal events. The children have to be accompanied by their mother to shower or use the bathroom due to their fear, and the mother has had to remain standing in the doorway with her back turned so that the children can maintain their privacy. In fact, the children will not go out into the kitchen to get a drink by themselves and an adult has to be with them all the time because they have become so frightened.
Other Witnesses:
As far as Karen’s brother Brad, he has had experiences in the home but he prefers not to discuss what he has experienced. Karen has a close friend named Craig who wanted to be present during our investigation to share with us some of his experiences in the home. The day prior to our arrival, anything that could go wrong did. Craig’s car broke down. He attempted to repair the vehicle, but to no avail. He contacted someone for a ride so he could be present for the interview. Craig and another friend, Sandy have not seen apparitions in the home, but he has seen lights flickering on and off, he has heard toilets flushing by themselves, and both have heard footsteps upstairs. Craig felt hands on his shoulders in the upstairs bathroom during one event and when he took off his shirt there were actual handprints on his back. Photos were taken of the handprints, but again, upon the pastor’s advice, such photos were destroyed before they could be documented. On another occasion, Craig and Karen were discussing some of the events that occurred in the home and Craig felt “an intense burning on his right calf.” He initially tried to ignore the discomfort, but when he could no longer do so he pulled up his pant leg to find scratches: one that was roughly four inches long and bleeding and two short, less severe scratches next to the longer scratch running down his leg.
Additional Case Information:
Karen is presently a stay at home mother, and her husband Devon works outside of the home. The family has no pets. Karen maintains a belief in God but as far as religion goes she is non-denominational. As mentioned earlier, she did have the home blessed by her pastor. After our investigation we conducted a clearing of the home upon the request of the homeowner. There have been no other groups that have investigated the home and the home has never been reported in any media events.
No one in the home takes any kinds of medication, no one has used herbal remedies, and no one has used herbs in an effort to have visions. Karen has an interest in the paranormal and she has watched paranormal television shows like Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters a lot. Her interest in the paranormal increased due to her own experiences. Karen is also a fan of horror movies, but she doesn’t read books on the paranormal.
No Ouija board has been used on the premises and no séances were conducted in the home. However, as a child around eight or nine years of age, Karen and her cousin had a bad experience with an Ouija board. Karen reports that when she was a child her cousin “dabbled in black magick,” and she has a vivid memory of sitting in a circle with her cousin and some other children. Her cousin was “praying to something with some candles and some fire” and Karen vividly remembers seeing a face through the fire. She also remembers another incident where she and some friends made an Ouija board and were using it. The board had told them that one of them would die when they were 21. During this event, a girl that was present during the session “went crazy, grabbed a knife, wanted to kill people, was lying on the floor shaking up and down.” This deterred Karen from ever wanting to use a Ouija again.
The home has undergone extensive renovations and is still in the process of being renovated. Karen, had also conducted some historical research on the home in an effort to determine what might be behind the ongoing paranormal activity at the location. She discovered that one of the previous owners had died in the home after having a heart attack on the property. The former owner, after being on hospice for a period of time passed away in the living room of the home.
History of the Location:
Schenevus is a small hamlet in the town of Maryland; the hamlet is situated in the south eastern corner of Otsego County in New York. The town of Maryland is comprised of several hamlets including Chaseville, Elk Creek, Hooker Mountain, Maryland, and Schenevus. The hamlet of Schenevus is a mere twenty five minutes from Cooperstown, and the location was first settled in the year 1793. Originally called Jacksonboro, when the town first started out it consisted of several grit mills, sawmills, a tannery and a copper shop. It wasn’t until 1848 that the town’s name was changed from Jacksonboro to Schenevus. The township of Maryland was established in the year 1808, and there is a main waterway that flows southwest and that runs through the towns of Schenevus, Chaseville, and Maryland called Schenevus Creek.
Photographic Captures
Images of orbs were captured in the basement but were discounted due to the insulation present in the location. Karen had fresh bruises from being pushed down the stairs from an unseen force and we took photos of her injuries which have been included in our gallery. The team feels that it is tremendously unfortunate that invaluable paranormal evidence was potentially lost due to the advice that the client received to destroy such evidence before our visit to the location. No other photos were captured during this investigation.

No video footage was captured in regard to this case.
EVPs Readings:
The team captured a number of EVPs at the investigation ranging from class A to class C. On the first level of the home, the team captured evps with rappings and unexplained scratching noises. Also on the first level of the home, an evp appears where an investigator asks “What is your purpose here.” The evp sample is a response that states: “it’s a secret.” Additional evps were captured on the second level of the home including evps with sing-songy responses and strange drumming in the background. No music was playing during our investigation in the home and no electronics were in use at the time. You can listen to all of the evps captured by our team as well as the evps captured by the client before our visit in our EVP gallery.
EMF Readings:
During our interview with the client Justyn's emf meter went off in his pocket despite the fact that he wasn't moving and there was nothing mundane that could set the detector off. Craig, a friend of the client, was standing next to Justyn and told him, "Something just moved past us." The emf meter then went off. Justyn pulled the meter from his pocket and set it on the dining room table where it continued to go off at a reading of 4 Milligauss. There were no electrical sources near Justyn at the time. Just prior to this event an evp is captured during the interview. Patricia is talking to the client about unexplained illnesses and their connection to paranormal activity. A class A, aggressive evp appears hissing: "We're in the air."
Temperature Fluctuations
At 10:50 am a temperature sample was taken in the upstairs bedroom belonging to Timmy. The room’s initial base reading was at 65 degrees Fahrenheit. A temperature increase was noted moments later to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and the temperature continued to rapidly increase to 74 degrees before returning to 65 degrees and stabilizing. According to the client, activity has been duly noted in this room of the home and the children are fearful of the room.
At 10:54 am Justyn took a temperature sample in Timmy’s room. Interestingly, the temperature near the ceiling of the location read 68 degrees Fahrenheit and the temperature near the floor of the room was 71 degrees despite the fact that heat naturally rises. There were no identified drafts in the room that could explain this incident.
At 11:05 am a temperature over the child’s bed read 62 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature dropped to 57.5 degrees Fahrenheit was detected. A pendulum was used in the same area which began spinning widdershins.
At 11:14 am a temperature sample was taken in the small bedroom adjacent to the upstairs bathroom. The reading captured was 54 degrees Fahrenheit. This room proved to be nearly six to seven degrees cooler than all the other rooms in the home, even rooms in the lower levels of the house.
At 11:45 am, an investigator took a temperature reading in the kitchen. The baseline reading was 68 degrees Fahrenheit which rapidly dropped to 60 degrees at 11:50 am without explanation before returning to 68 degrees once more.
Dowsing Rods:
At 10:47 am Patricia was using dowsing rods in Timmy’s room when the dowsing rod began spinning. Justyn took up his dowsing rods and both rods pointed directly toward Patricia where she was experiencing activity in the room at the time. At that time, the investigators had no knowledge of the events that had occurred in the room in question.
Pendulum Readings:
At 11:05 am a pendulum reading was performed over the child’s bed in Timmy’s room which began spinning widdershins.
At 11:45 am a pendulum was used in the living room of the location and it began swinging widdershins indicating negative energies at the location.
At 11:50 am, a pendulum was used in the kitchen area where a temperature drop was detected. The pendulum began to swing widdershins slowly suggesting the presence of negative energies.
Psychic Impressions and Artistry:
Upon our arrival at the location Angela Kaufman notes her initial psychic impressions of the location. Angela notes: “I sensed a strong, negative, dense, energy surrounding the house and oozing out of it and encircling the location.” Angela also notes that a number of unexplained events occurred to her or around her in the days preceding our arrival at the location. First, a set of chimes broke in her home unexpectedly and without explanation. She also began hearing noises in her home that had no explainable cause and she experienced a number of malfunctions with the electronics in her home.
Patricia and Dayna did an initial walk through of the home before the team was permitted to enter the location. Both investigators noted a significant heavy and oppressive feeling in the upstairs of the location, particularly in Timmy’s room, which made it tremendously difficult to breathe. Neither of the investigators had knowledge of the events occurring in that room at the time.
At 10:30 am Justyn Staley notes feeling the onset of nausea and the sensation of being watched by something from upstairs. This correlates with complaints later made by the client and Justyn had no knowledge of the client’s experiences at the time.
At 10:33 am, Angela notes that she sensed “a striking and unusual sensation coming from the dining room mirror.”
10:35 am, Angela Kaufman, psychic sketch artist notes, “While in the dining room of the location I was setting up for a drawing session. My left knee began to hurt – this has long been a weak spot for me and it acts up in the presence of very negative energy. At this time, another investigator took a temperature reading and spoke it aloud; the room was 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite this fact, Angela reports the sensation of “freezing.”
At 10:39 Justyn Staley entered Timmy’s bedroom in the upstairs of the location. He notes that he felt like he was “pushed toward the window, and he further reports feeling unusually cold.” This report correlates with the reports later offered by the client suggesting that they were pushed by an unseen force in the home on more than one occasion.
At 10:40 am, Angela steps into the kitchen, just passing through the room to head to the upstairs of the location and reports experiencing unexplained dizziness. Angela notes: “I felt a dense energy and I felt weighted down.”
At 10:41 am, Angela notes that she senses an entity in the upstairs of the location in Timmy’s room. Angela writes in her notes “an older woman with dark curly hair – looks angry/unhappy and has her arms folded. The sketch is provided in our photo gallery for viewing.
At 10:47 am, while in Timmy’s room, Angela notes that she sensed “ an older, heavy set man, a farmer.” She sensed that the spirit was separate from the other negative entities that she sensed at the location.
At 10:55 am, Angela notes that while in Timmy’s room she “felt a strong feeling of pull like a magnet toward the child’s closet.”
At 10:58 am, Angela was sitting on the floor near a child’s bed which had been placed in the Master bedroom. She reports feeling sudden and extreme pain in both knees without explanation. Her notes also reveal that she sensed that a spirit at the location was attracted to a “young, dark haired boy. The spirit is meddlesome and attracts negative.” None of the client’s children were present at the home during our investigation and Angela had no prior knowledge of what the children in the home looked like before documenting this report.
At 11:01 upon entering Christine’s bedroom, Justyn notes feeling “a heavy, oppressive feeling in the chest.” Justyn used the dowsing rods in the room and they proceeded to spin in his hands; the left rod moved widdershins and the right dowsing rod moved deosil.
At 11:04 am, after entering the Master bedroom, Angela sketched an image of a Native American that she sensed holding a “staff or walking stick.” Three minutes later she reports feeling light-headed in the same location.
At 11:16 am, Justyn reports in his notes “the sensation of being watched from the small bedroom adjacent to the bathroom in the upstairs of the location.”
At 11:35 am, Justyn’s camera failed while another investigator was collecting evp samples in the dining room.
At 11:45 am, one of our investigators noted the sensation of being watched from something unseen while in the living room of the location. This assertion correlates with reports later shared with us by the client.
During the clearing of the home, one of our investigators had a vision experience where they saw a “non human looking being with fangs, red eyes, and the being was screaming.” At the time of the experience the investigator had no knowledge of the photographs that the clients had at one time captured of a similarly described creature/entity in the upstairs of the location.
Issues with Equipment:
At 10:40 am the video camera was set up in Timmy’s room and turned on to record. Roughly three minutes later the camera battery died and had to be plugged into an outlet in order for it to work.
Other Unexplained Events Reported by Investigators:
The ISIS team performed a clearing in the home. During the clearing Karen and several of her friends remained on the couch in the living room. Karen attempted to pray during the clearing and could not. She felt as if she was suffocating. After this incident, as the clearing continued, Karen wanted to tell our team to leave and to laugh at everyone who was attempting to pray in the home. Her pupils dilated despite being in a room with excessive lighting. This event was witnessed by all of our investigators and the other people present. She states: “I was having mean thoughts that were not my own. My hold body was tingling; I can’t believe or describe the experience.” Karen was visibly shaken by the experience, and she stepped outside of the home to recover. Upon her return she was physically fine but still visibly shaken by the event. In addition, right after the clearing, Craig became physically ill and ran into the bathroom and began vomiting. After becoming ill, the individual recovered and was physically fine.
At 12:10 am, upon entering the basement of the location to take photos and collect evps, an unexplained sulfur smell was identified by all investigators and one other witness. There was no explanation for the smell and the witness, a friend of the homeowner, assured us that the smell was never present before.
Conclusions: Haunted.
Given the history of events, the multiple witness reports, the positive evp findings, and our experiences at the location, we feel safe in concluding that the home is active for paranormal activity. We conducted a clearing in the home and will remain in touch with the client to see how the client is doing after our investigation and clearing. If any further updates are warranted we will add them to this write up accordingly.

ISIS investigates Schenevus, New York

Image Credit: Image After The ISIS Paranormal Investigations team was called upon to visit a private home located in Schenevus, New York after the owner’s of the home reported unexplained paranormal activity. The paranormal activity reported in the home included reports of doors opening and closing without human aid, the sighting of apparitions, unexplained burning sensations, the unexplained appearance of scratch marks on various individuals visiting the home and living in the home, and the television turning on and off by itself. Additional reports included the sighting of a glowing white light in an empty bathroom; when the client went to check to see what the source of the light was the light disappeared. The clients reported being able to hear whispers from an unexplained source, footsteps and loud banging/thudding in the upstairs of the location when no one was on the upstairs level, and the female head of the household as well as her son were pushed down the stairs by an unseen force on several occasions.

Interview
We have elected to keep the family anonymous to protect the family and children. We will identify the female head of the household as Karen 27, the male head of the household as Devon, and three children as Timmy 11, Christine 2, and Tom 6. Karen’s brother Brad, 27, also stays at the location from time to time. Before moving their family into the home, Karen was told about the home from a friend of hers. Karen visited the home for the first time and she had a creepy feeling about the place but kept her feelings to herself. Later that night she returned home and had a nightmare about the house that they now reside in. Karen dreamed that she and her daughter were in the home and her daughter was a bit older than she is now. In the dream there was a man in the window and when Karen spotted the man, she grabbed her daughter and went running upstairs into the upstairs bathroom. In the dream Karen locked the door and she hid her daughter in the cabinet under the sink; the man broke into the house and attacked and killed Karen in her dream. Karen told her husband about the dream, but after discussing the advantages of being in such a large home, against her better judgment Karen agreed to move into the house.
In addition to the activity reported above, the clients reported to the ISIS team that on one occasion, a toy Hess truck that was resting on a shelf in an upstairs bedroom flew off the wall. People that would visit the home would come in and complain about sensations of “burning” for no apparent reason at all. On several other occasions, people that visited the home would be scratched by something unseen, with so much force that the scratches would draw blood. The scratches would appear in configurations of three. So much activity went on in the home that Karen asserts that it became possible to sense when something would happen.
Karen and some friends decided that they would conduct their own paranormal investigation on the property. After watching a television show to see how evps were collected, Karen left a tape recorder running in the house on the first floor of the home for the night. She has provided this tape to our team and the evps that are on the tape are offered in our evp gallery. Karen took some pictures of the outside of the location and explained that some of the photographs taken captured something in the front window of the home:
“We got a picture of something we didn’t really care to see. It was not human, and it had sharp teeth, and it peeked around the side of the window. We had one photo where it was coming toward the window and another photo where it was backing away from the window. It was like it knew what we were doing. It had sharp teeth and it almost looked like a smegal, like a gargoyle or something….I sent the picture to others on the computer to see if it could be enhanced. The thing that freaked me out is that people were coming back and telling me, that the picture was three dimensional with its own shadow. Those who received the image were so disturbed by it that they destroyed it.”
The photograph was associated with other events that occurred off the initial property:
“A friend of mine had it [the photo] and she was showing it to a girlfriend on the hood of her car and she went home that night and got a phone call that somehow, in the middle of the night, her car had caught on fire from the hood back. And she totally believes that it was from the picture. She was completely afraid. It was petrifying.”
The owners of the home have resided at the location for a period of 1.5 years and the home was built in the early 1900s. The home owners had the home blessed by a pastor in February of 2009, and the blessing proved to quiet down the activity for a period of time. The activity picked up again right before Halloween/Samhain. When the home was blessed the pastor had advised the clients not to give the activity in the home any attention and to destroy any evidence that had been collected in regard to the paranormal activity in question, including any photographs she had gathered. Karen did as instructed and destroyed a number of photographs, including the one mentioned above. After showing the photos to the pastor she was told to “Get rid of that immediately.” Still, all efforts to ignore the activity came to naught because the activity would increase until anyone present couldn’t help but take notice and react.
On four of five different occasions, Karen and her husband Devon have just picked up the family and left the home because the paranormal activity had gotten so bad. Karen reported occasions when she and her husband could hear footsteps, thudding, and things knocking around upstairs when no one was upstairs at all. Karen has an interest in the paranormal and she has watched paranormal television shows like Paranormal State and Ghost Hunters a lot. Her interest in the paranormal increased due to her own experiences. Karen is also a fan of horror movies, but she doesn’t read books on the paranormal.
No Ouija board has been used on the premises and no séances were conducted in the home. However, as a child around eight or nine years of age, Karen and her cousin had a bad experience with an Ouija board. Karen reports that when she was a child her cousin “dabbled in black magick,” and she has a vivid memory of sitting in a circle with her cousin and some other children. Her cousin was “praying to something with some candles and some fire” and Karen vividly remembers seeing a face through the fire. She also remembers another incident where she and some friends made an Ouija board and were using it. The board had told them that one of them would die when they were 21. During this event, a girl that was present during the session “went crazy, grabbed a knife, wanted to kill people, was lying on the floor shaking up and down.” This deterred Karen from ever wanting to use a Ouija again.
The home has undergone extensive renovations and is still in the process of being renovated. Karen, had also conducted some historical research on the home in an effort to determine what might be behind the ongoing paranormal activity at the location. She discovered that one of the previous owners had died in the home after having a heart attack on the property. The former owner, after being on hospice for a period of time passed away in the living room of the home.
History of the Location:
Schenevus is a small hamlet in the town of Maryland; the hamlet is situated in the south eastern corner of Otsego County in New York. The town of Maryland is comprised of several hamlets including Chaseville, Elk Creek, Hooker Mountain, Maryland, and Schenevus. The hamlet of Schenevus is a mere twenty five minutes from Cooperstown, and the location was first settled in the year 1793. Originally called Jacksonboro, when the town first started out it consisted of several grit mills, sawmills, a tannery and a copper shop. It wasn’t until 1848 that the town’s name was changed from Jacksonboro to Schenevus. The township of Maryland was established in the year 1808, and there is a main waterway that flows southwest and that runs through the towns of Schenevus, Chaseville, and Maryland called Schenevus Creek.
Photographic Captures
Images of orbs were captured in the basement but were discounted due to the insulation present in the location. Karen had fresh bruises from being pushed down the stairs from an unseen force and we took photos of her injuries which have been included in our gallery. The team feels that it is tremendously unfortunate that invaluable paranormal evidence was potentially lost due to the advice that the client received to destroy such evidence before our visit to the location. No other photos were captured during this investigation.

EVPs Readings:
The team captured a number of EVPs at the investigation ranging from class A to class C. On the first level of the home, the team captured evps with rappings and unexplained scratching noises. Also on the first level of the home, an evp appears where an investigator asks “What is your purpose here.” The evp sample is a response that states: “it’s a secret.” Additional evps were captured on the second level of the home including evps with sing-songy responses and strange drumming in the background. No music was playing during our investigation in the home and no electronics were in use at the time. EMF Readings:
During our interview with the client Justyn's emf meter went off in his pocket despite the fact that he wasn't moving and there was nothing mundane that could set the detector off. Craig, a friend of the client, was standing next to Justyn and told him, "Something just moved past us." The emf meter then went off. Justyn pulled the meter from his pocket and set it on the dining room table where it continued to go off at a reading of 4 Milligauss. There were no electrical sources near Justyn at the time. Just prior to this event an evp is captured during the interview. Patricia is talking to the client about unexplained illnesses and their connection to paranormal activity. A class A, aggressive evp appears hissing: "We're in the air."
Temperature Fluctuations
At 10:50 am a temperature sample was taken in the upstairs bedroom belonging to Timmy. The room’s initial base reading was at 65 degrees Fahrenheit. A temperature increase was noted moments later to 68 degrees Fahrenheit, and the temperature continued to rapidly increase to 74 degrees before returning to 65 degrees and stabilizing. According to the client, activity has been duly noted in this room of the home and the children are fearful of the room.
At 10:54 am Justyn took a temperature sample in Timmy’s room. Interestingly, the temperature near the ceiling of the location read 68 degrees Fahrenheit and the temperature near the floor of the room was 71 degrees despite the fact that heat naturally rises. There were no identified drafts in the room that could explain this incident.
At 11:05 am a temperature over the child’s bed read 62 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature dropped to 57.5 degrees Fahrenheit was detected. A pendulum was used in the same area which began spinning widdershins.
At 11:14 am a temperature sample was taken in the small bedroom adjacent to the upstairs bathroom. The reading captured was 54 degrees Fahrenheit. This room proved to be nearly six to seven degrees cooler than all the other rooms in the home, even rooms in the lower levels of the house.
At 11:45 am, an investigator took a temperature reading in the kitchen. The baseline reading was 68 degrees Fahrenheit which rapidly dropped to 60 degrees at 11:50 am without explanation before returning to 68 degrees once more.
Dowsing Rods:
At 10:47 am Patricia was using dowsing rods in Timmy’s room when the dowsing rod began spinning. Justyn took up his dowsing rods and both rods pointed directly toward Patricia where she was experiencing activity in the room at the time. At that time, the investigators had no knowledge of the events that had occurred in the room in question.
Pendulum Readings:
At 11:05 am a pendulum reading was performed over the child’s bed in Timmy’s room which began spinning widdershins.
At 11:45 am a pendulum was used in the living room of the location and it began swinging widdershins indicating negative energies at the location.
At 11:50 am, a pendulum was used in the kitchen area where a temperature drop was detected. The pendulum began to swing widdershins slowly suggesting the presence of negative energies.
Psychic Impressions and Artistry:
Upon our arrival at the location Angela Kaufman notes her initial psychic impressions of the location. Angela notes: “I sensed a strong, negative, dense, energy surrounding the house and oozing out of it and encircling the location.” Angela also notes that a number of unexplained events occurred to her or around her in the days preceding our arrival at the location. First, a set of chimes broke in her home unexpectedly and without explanation. She also began hearing noises in her home that had no explainable cause and she experienced a number of malfunctions with the electronics in her home.
Patricia and Dayna did an initial walk through of the home before the team was permitted to enter the location. Both investigators noted a significant heavy and oppressive feeling in the upstairs of the location, particularly in Timmy’s room, which made it tremendously difficult to breathe. Neither of the investigators had knowledge of the events occurring in that room at the time.
At 10:30 am Justyn Staley notes feeling the onset of nausea and the sensation of being watched by something from upstairs. This correlates with complaints later made by the client and Justyn had no knowledge of the client’s experiences at the time.
At 10:33 am, Angela notes that she sensed “a striking and unusual sensation coming from the dining room mirror.”
10:35 am, Angela Kaufman, psychic sketch artist notes, “While in the dining room of the location I was setting up for a drawing session. My left knee began to hurt – this has long been a weak spot for me and it acts up in the presence of very negative energy. At this time, another investigator took a temperature reading and spoke it aloud; the room was 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite this fact, Angela reports the sensation of “freezing.”
At 10:39 Justyn Staley entered Timmy’s bedroom in the upstairs of the location. He notes that he felt like he was “pushed toward the window, and he further reports feeling unusually cold.” This report correlates with the reports later offered by the client suggesting that they were pushed by an unseen force in the home on more than one occasion.
At 10:40 am, Angela steps into the kitchen, just passing through the room to head to the upstairs of the location and reports experiencing unexplained dizziness. Angela notes: “I felt a dense energy and I felt weighted down.”
At 10:41 am, Angela notes that she senses an entity in the upstairs of the location in Timmy’s room. Angela writes in her notes “an older woman with dark curly hair – looks angry/unhappy and has her arms folded. The sketch is provided in our photo gallery for viewing.
At 10:47 am, while in Timmy’s room, Angela notes that she sensed “ an older, heavy set man, a farmer.” She sensed that the spirit was separate from the other negative entities that she sensed at the location.
At 10:55 am, Angela notes that while in Timmy’s room she “felt a strong feeling of pull like a magnet toward the child’s closet.”
At 10:58 am, Angela was sitting on the floor near a child’s bed which had been placed in the Master bedroom. She reports feeling sudden and extreme pain in both knees without explanation. Her notes also reveal that she sensed that a spirit at the location was attracted to a “young, dark haired boy. The spirit is meddlesome and attracts negative.” None of the client’s children were present at the home during our investigation and Angela had no prior knowledge of what the children in the home looked like before documenting this report.
At 11:01 upon entering Christine’s bedroom, Justyn notes feeling “a heavy, oppressive feeling in the chest.” Justyn used the dowsing rods in the room and they proceeded to spin in his hands; the left rod moved widdershins and the right dowsing rod moved deosil.
At 11:04 am, after entering the Master bedroom, Angela sketched an image of a Native American that she sensed holding a “staff or walking stick.” Three minutes later she reports feeling light-headed in the same location.
At 11:16 am, Justyn reports in his notes “the sensation of being watched from the small bedroom adjacent to the bathroom in the upstairs of the location.”
At 11:35 am, Justyn’s camera failed while another investigator was collecting evp samples in the dining room.
At 11:45 am, one of our investigators noted the sensation of being watched from something unseen while in the living room of the location. This assertion correlates with reports later shared with us by the client.
During the clearing of the home, one of our investigators had a vision experience where they saw a “non human looking being with fangs, red eyes, and the being was screaming.” At the time of the experience the investigator had no knowledge of the photographs that the clients had at one time captured of a similarly described creature/entity in the upstairs of the location.
Issues with Equipment:
At 10:40 am the video camera was set up in Timmy’s room and turned on to record. Roughly three minutes later the camera battery died and had to be plugged into an outlet in order for it to work.
Other Unexplained Events Reported by Investigators:
The ISIS team performed a clearing in the home. During the clearing Karen and several of her friends remained on the couch in the living room. Karen attempted to pray during the clearing and could not. She felt as if she was suffocating. After this incident, as the clearing continued, Karen wanted to tell our team to leave and to laugh at everyone who was attempting to pray in the home. Her pupils dilated despite being in a room with excessive lighting. This event was witnessed by all of our investigators and the other people present. She states: “I was having mean thoughts that were not my own. My hold body was tingling; I can’t believe or describe the experience.” Karen was visibly shaken by the experience, and she stepped outside of the home to recover. Upon her return she was physically fine but still visibly shaken by the event. In addition, right after the clearing, Craig became physically ill and ran into the bathroom and began vomiting. After becoming ill, the individual recovered and was physically fine.
At 12:10 am, upon entering the basement of the location to take photos and collect evps, an unexplained sulfur smell was identified by all investigators and one other witness. There was no explanation for the smell and the witness, a friend of the homeowner, assured us that the smell was never present before.
Conclusions: Haunted.
Given the history of events, the multiple witness reports, the positive evp findings, and our experiences at the location, we feel safe in concluding that the home is active for paranormal activity. We conducted a clearing in the home and will remain in touch with the client to see how the client is doing after our investigation and clearing. If any further updates are warranted we will add them to this write up accordingly.

[!gad]The ISIS Paranormal Investigations team was called upon to visit a private home located in Schenevus, New York after the owner’s of the home reported unexplained paranormal activity. The paranormal activity reported in the home included reports of doors opening and closing without human aid, the sighting of apparitions, unexplained burning sensations, the unexplained appearance of scratch marks on various individuals visiting the home and living in the home, and the television turning on and off by itself. Additional reports included the sighting of a glowing white light in an empty bathroom; when the client went to check to see what the source of the light was the light disappeared. The clients reported being able to hear whispers from an unexplained source, footsteps and loud banging/thudding in the upstairs of the location when no one was on the upstairs level, and the female head of the household as well as her son were pushed down the stairs by an unseen force on several occasions.

Interview
We have elected to keep the family anonymous to protect the family and children. We will identify the female head of the household as Karen 27, the male head of the household as Devon, and three children as Timmy 11, Christine 2, and Tom 6. Karen’s brother Brad, 27, also stays at the location from time to time. Before moving their family into the home, Karen was told about the home from a friend of hers. Karen visited the home for the first time and she had a creepy feeling about the place but kept her feelings to herself. Later that night she returned home and had a nightmare about the house that they now reside in. Karen dreamed that she and her daughter were in the home and her daughter was a bit older than she is now. In the dream there was a man in the window and when Karen spotted the man, she grabbed her daughter and went running upstairs into the upstairs bathroom. In the dream Karen locked the door and she hid her daughter in the cabinet under the sink; the man broke into the house and attacked and killed Karen in her dream. Karen told her husband about the dream, but after discussing the advantages of being in such a large home, against her better judgment Karen agreed to move into the house.
In addition to the activity reported above, the clients reported to the ISIS team that on one occasion, a toy Hess truck that was resting on a shelf in an upstairs bedroom flew off the wall. People that would visit the home would come in and complain about sensations of “burning” for no apparent reason at all. On several other occasions, people that visited the home would be scratched by something unseen, with so much force that the scratches would draw blood. The scratches would appear in configurations of three. So much activity went on in the home that Karen asserts that it became possible to sense when something would happen.
Karen and some friends decided that they would conduct their own paranormal investigation on the property. After watching a television show to see how evps were collected, Karen left a tape recorder running in the house on the first floor of the home for the night. She has provided this tape to our team and the evps that are on the tape are offered in our evp gallery. Karen took some pictures of the outside of the location and explained that some of the photographs taken captured something in the front window of the home:
“We got a picture of something we didn’t really care to see. It was not human, and it had sharp teeth, and it peeked around the side of the window. We had one photo where it was coming toward the window and another photo where it was backing away from the window. It was like it knew what we were doing. It had sharp teeth and it almost looked like a smegal, like a gargoyle or something….I sent the picture to others on the computer to see if it could be enhanced. The thing that freaked me out is that people were coming back and telling me, that the picture was three dimensional with its own shadow. Those who received the image were so disturbed by it that they destroyed it.”
The photograph was associated with other events that occurred off the initial property:
“A friend of mine had it [the photo] and she was showing it to a girlfriend on the hood of her car and she went home that night and got a phone call that somehow, in the middle of the night, her car had caught on fire from the hood back. And she totally believes that it was from the picture. She was completely afraid. It was petrifying.”
The owners of the home have resided at the location for a period of 1.5 years and the home was built in the early 1900s. The home owners had the home blessed by a pastor in February of 2009, and the blessing proved to quiet down the activity for a period of time. The activity picked up again right before Halloween/Samhain. When the home was blessed the pastor had advised the clients not to give the activity in the home any attention and to destroy any evidence that had been collected in regard to the paranormal activity in question, including any photographs she had gathered. Karen did as instructed and destroyed a number of photographs, including the one mentioned above. After showing the photos to the pastor she was told to “Get rid of that immediately.” Still, all efforts to ignore the activity came to naught because the activity would increase until anyone present couldn’t help but take notice and react.
On four of five different occasions, Karen and her husband Devon have just picked up the family and left the home because the paranormal activity had gotten so bad. Karen reported occasions when she and her husband could hear footsteps, thudding, and things knocking around upstairs when no one was upstairs at all. Karen also reported that a couple of days before our visit to the home she had stepped out of the shower and saw a glowing white light behind the door of the bathroom. Frightened, she fled the bathroom and went to her husband and told him that there was someone or something in the bathroom. Trying to reassure his wife, Devon told her that there was nobody in the bathroom and he went to the bathroom to check. When he entered there was nothing present.
On more than one occasion, Karen has been pushed down the stairs at the location by an “energy force.” The evening before our arrival involved the most recent physical attack by an unseen force. Karen explained that as hard as she tried to maintain her position on the stairs, the “energy force,” won and pushed her down with considerable force. Karen states: “I was holding onto the railings as I was skidding on my feet, it was like I was trying to hold on for dear life, and I couldn’t…I couldn’t keep myself up.” Due to the most recent incident, Karen suffered swelling of the arm and multiple bruises. We have a photograph of the bruising that Karen suffered from in our photo gallery. One of her children has endured similar attacks and has been pushed down the stairs as well.
Devon has experienced problems with the light downstairs in the home, and Karen and others have heard whispers in the home. During one event, Karen was home with her daughter when she heard whispering and she told the entity or entities: “I don’t want to see you. You’re not allowed to touch me. Don’t touch me.” She then heard what sounded like balls bouncing around in the upstairs level of the home. Karen reports that both her and her husband have also heard moaning, crying, growling, strange ticking noises, rappings, banging, and Karen asserts that it seems like every day that something happens in the home.
During one encounter, Karen was walking from the living room into the kitchen and she glanced up the staircase: all she could see was a partial apparition consisting of the bottom of legs and boots. From the angle she was standing at along the base of the staircase, if anyone was upstairs it would be impossible to see the entire person’s body, but no one should have been upstairs at the time. Karen, shocked by what she saw, backed up several steps. When she composed herself she stepped forward again only to find that what she saw had disappeared. An examination of the upstairs revealed no one on the upstairs level of the home.
During another paranormal encounter which caused Karen’s daughter to become terrified of entering her brother’s bedroom. Karen’s daughter, son, and nephew were playing in the boy’s bedroom. Karen went upstairs to check on the three children and they were playing with a Hess truck that was positioned high on a shelf in the room. Karen questioned her daughter and asked her how she got the toy truck and the daughter responded “monsters.” Later on, Karen went upstairs to clean and her daughter came running out of her brother’s bedroom, terribly frightened. The child told her mother: “Mommy, Mommy, I’m scared. Timmy’s room, Timmy’s room, the monster is in it!” Karen led the child downstairs and passed it off believing that she might have seen something but that the child was so little that she might not have realized what she was seeing. After the incident, Karen went upstairs to vacuum and when she went to enter Timmy’s bedroom, her daughter Christine just clung to her and refused to enter her brother’s bedroom.
Another incident occurred involving Tom, the 6 year-old boy was watching television when he came running out of the living room and told his mother: “Mommy, I saw a shadow man.” The mother questioned the child, “What’s a shadow man?” The child had great difficulty explaining what he saw and the mother was surprised by the child’s description of the events in question.
The entire family has been sleeping in one room because the children have become so fearful of the ongoing paranormal events. The children have to be accompanied by their mother to shower or use the bathroom due to their fear, and the mother has had to remain standing in the doorway with her back turned so that the children can maintain their privacy. In fact, the children will not go out into the kitchen to get a drink by themselves and an adult has to be with them all the time because they have become so frightened.
Other Witnesses:
As far as Karen’s brother Brad, he has had experiences in the home but he prefers not to discuss what he has experienced. Karen has a close friend named Craig who wanted to be present during our investigation to share with us some of his experiences in the home. The day prior to our arrival, anything that could go wrong did. Craig’s car broke down. He attempted to repair the vehicle, but to no avail. He contacted someone for a ride so he could be present for the interview. Craig and another friend, Sandy have not seen apparitions in the home, but he has seen lights flickering on and off, he has heard toilets flushing by themselves, and both have heard footsteps upstairs. Craig felt hands on his shoulders in the upstairs bathroom during one event and when he took off his shirt there were actual handprints on his back. Photos were taken of the handprints, but again, upon the pastor’s advice, such photos were destroyed before they could be documented. On another occasion, Craig and Karen were discussing some of the events that occurred in the home and Craig felt “an intense burning on his right calf.” He initially tried to ignore the discomfort, but when he could no longer do so he pulled up his pant leg to find scratches: one that was roughly four inches long and bleeding and two short, less severe scratches next to the longer scratch running down his leg.
Additional Case Information:
Karen is presently a stay at home mother, and her husband Devon works outside of the home. The family has no pets. Karen maintains a belief in God but as far as religion goes she is non-denominational. As mentioned earlier, she did have the home blessed by her pastor. After our investigation we conducted a clearing of the home upon the request of the homeowner. There have been no other groups that have investigated the home and the home has never been reported in any media events.

At 11:45 am, an investigator took a temperature reading in the kitchen. The baseline reading was 68 degrees Fahrenheit which rapidly dropped to 60 degrees at 11:50 am without explanation before returning to 68 degrees once more.
Dowsing Rods:
At 10:47 am Patricia was using dowsing rods in Timmy’s room when the dowsing rod began spinning. Justyn took up his dowsing rods and both rods pointed directly toward Patricia where she was experiencing activity in the room at the time. At that time, the investigators had no knowledge of the events that had occurred in the room in question.
Pendulum Readings:
At 11:05 am a pendulum reading was performed over the child’s bed in Timmy’s room which began spinning widdershins.
At 11:45 am a pendulum was used in the living room of the location and it began swinging widdershins indicating negative energies at the location.
At 11:50 am, a pendulum was used in the kitchen area where a temperature drop was detected. The pendulum began to swing widdershins slowly suggesting the presence of negative energies.
Psychic Impressions and Artistry:
Upon our arrival at the location Angela Kaufman notes her initial psychic impressions of the location. Angela notes: “I sensed a strong, negative, dense, energy surrounding the house and oozing out of it and encircling the location.” Angela also notes that a number of unexplained events occurred to her or around her in the days preceding our arrival at the location. First, a set of chimes broke in her home unexpectedly and without explanation. She also began hearing noises in her home that had no explainable cause and she experienced a number of malfunctions with the electronics in her home.
Patricia and Dayna did an initial walk through of the home before the team was permitted to enter the location. Both investigators noted a significant heavy and oppressive feeling in the upstairs of the location, particularly in Timmy’s room, which made it tremendously difficult to breathe. Neither of the investigators had knowledge of the events occurring in that room at the time.
At 10:30 am Justyn Staley notes feeling the onset of nausea and the sensation of being watched by something from upstairs. This correlates with complaints later made by the client and Justyn had no knowledge of the client’s experiences at the time.
At 10:33 am, Angela notes that she sensed “a striking and unusual sensation coming from the dining room mirror.”
10:35 am, Angela Kaufman, psychic sketch artist notes, “While in the dining room of the location I was setting up for a drawing session. My left knee began to hurt – this has long been a weak spot for me and it acts up in the presence of very negative energy. At this time, another investigator took a temperature reading and spoke it aloud; the room was 77 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite this fact, Angela reports the sensation of “freezing.”
At 10:39 Justyn Staley entered Timmy’s bedroom in the upstairs of the location. He notes that he felt like he was “pushed toward the window, and he further reports feeling unusually cold.” This report correlates with the reports later offered by the client suggesting that they were pushed by an unseen force in the home on more than one occasion.
At 10:40 am, Angela steps into the kitchen, just passing through the room to head to the upstairs of the location and reports experiencing unexplained dizziness. Angela notes: “I felt a dense energy and I felt weighted down.”
At 10:41 am, Angela notes that she senses an entity in the upstairs of the location in Timmy’s room. Angela writes in her notes “an older woman with dark curly hair – looks angry/unhappy and has her arms folded. The sketch is provided in our photo gallery for viewing.
At 10:47 am, while in Timmy’s room, Angela notes that she sensed “ an older, heavy set man, a farmer.” She sensed that the spirit was separate from the other negative entities that she sensed at the location.
At 10:55 am, Angela notes that while in Timmy’s room she “felt a strong feeling of pull like a magnet toward the child’s closet.”
At 10:58 am, Angela was sitting on the floor near a child’s bed which had been placed in the Master bedroom. She reports feeling sudden and extreme pain in both knees without explanation. Her notes also reveal that she sensed that a spirit at the location was attracted to a “young, dark haired boy. The spirit is meddlesome and attracts negative.” None of the client’s children were present at the home during our investigation and Angela had no prior knowledge of what the children in the home looked like before documenting this report.
At 11:01 upon entering Christine’s bedroom, Justyn notes feeling “a heavy, oppressive feeling in the chest.” Justyn used the dowsing rods in the room and they proceeded to spin in his hands; the left rod moved widdershins and the right dowsing rod moved deosil.
At 11:04 am, after entering the Master bedroom, Angela sketched an image of a Native American that she sensed holding a “staff or walking stick.” Three minutes later she reports feeling light-headed in the same location.
At 11:16 am, Justyn reports in his notes “the sensation of being watched from the small bedroom adjacent to the bathroom in the upstairs of the location.”
At 11:35 am, Justyn’s camera failed while another investigator was collecting evp samples in the dining room.
At 11:45 am, one of our investigators noted the sensation of being watched from something unseen while in the living room of the location. This assertion correlates with reports later shared with us by the client.
During the clearing of the home, one of our investigators had a vision experience where they saw a “non human looking being with fangs, red eyes, and the being was screaming.” At the time of the experience the investigator had no knowledge of the photographs that the clients had at one time captured of a similarly described creature/entity in the upstairs of the location.
Issues with Equipment:
At 10:40 am the video camera was set up in Timmy’s room and turned on to record. Roughly three minutes later the camera battery died and had to be plugged into an outlet in order for it to work.
Other Unexplained Events Reported by Investigators:
The ISIS team performed a clearing in the home. During the clearing Karen and several of her friends remained on the couch in the living room. Karen attempted to pray during the clearing and could not. She felt as if she was suffocating. After this incident, as the clearing continued, Karen wanted to tell our team to leave and to laugh at everyone who was attempting to pray in the home. Her pupils dilated despite being in a room with excessive lighting. This event was witnessed by all of our investigators and the other people present. She states: “I was having mean thoughts that were not my own. My hold body was tingling; I can’t believe or describe the experience.” Karen was visibly shaken by the experience, and she stepped outside of the home to recover. Upon her return she was physically fine but still visibly shaken by the event. In addition, right after the clearing, Craig became physically ill and ran into the bathroom and began vomiting. After becoming ill, the individual recovered and was physically fine.
At 12:10 am, upon entering the basement of the location to take photos and collect evps, an unexplained sulfur smell was identified by all investigators and one other witness. There was no explanation for the smell and the witness, a friend of the homeowner, assured us that the smell was never present before.
Conclusions: Haunted.
Given the history of events, the multiple witness reports, the positive evp findings, and our experiences at the location, we feel safe in concluding that the home is active for paranormal activity. We conducted a clearing in the home and will remain in touch with the client to see how the client is doing after our investigation and clearing. If any further updates are warranted we will add them to this write up accordingly.
