Analyzing the Patterson-Gimlin film

In this article Noah David Henson takes a close look at the famous Roger Patterson footage of an alleged Bigfoot, included here is a stabilized version of the video along with a lengthy and concise analysis of the film.
For anyone interested in investigating the possibility that this film might depict a man in a suit, I recommend watching the video several times, finger depressing the pause button in various spots along the progression so as to examine the gait, musculature, limb proportions, and the distribution of hair — all of which, to my trained eye, appear to be non-human and which taken together exclude the possibility of a person in costume."

I first saw the Patterson film "Bigfoot" back in the late 60's (Now I really feel old) and was really quite interested in it. It seemed very new and different. However, it now being over 40 years later and no one has come up with any evidence at all to substantiate the claims (not through lack of trying) that leads me to think the whole thing was a hoax. With today’s technology something more substantial should have turned up by now.

This is one of the reasons why i still believe Sasquatch exist.... Patterson-Gimlin Film is not a hoax, its genuine img src="http://www.unexplained-mysteries.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/#EMO_DIR#/sleep.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="sleep.gif" / Come on, people, I am quite certain that years ago I watched a show wherein the creaters of the film admitted that it was a hoax.

The Patterson-Gimlin video has been the evidence that has always kept my interest in Crypto zoology alive, as old as it is, in my eyes it is the ultimate proof that in some stage of our not so distant past there was a large, upright unknown creature roaming some uninhabited part of the U.S.A. The point made in the article, about if it is a man in a suit, how could the suit be so good? Is to me the sticking point. We have all seen films from the 1960`s and 1970`s, we know that suits were no where near that realistic looking. If you watch a biped walk away from you, don't the buttocks jiggle, wo... [More]

If you watch a biped walk away from you, don't the buttocks jiggle, wouldn't the fur on the back ruffle? Doesn't this gait look more like a human's rather than an ape's? Hmmm.... the only bipedal ape we can compare the gait with is us humans. All the other apes are quadrupeds (although occasionally they stand and walk upright) As soon as we find more bipedal apes and look at their gait, will we be able to say how a bipedal gait should look on avarage.

It's not a suit! The thing has muscles for christ's sake. It has imagined muscles, that is all. Anyone who claims to pick fine detail from that grainy film is lying.

I'd have to agree with you on it being grainy footage and each time it's copied the contrast becomes brighter taking away detail and certainly leading to false conclusions. However when MK Davis acquired the original footage last year and analyzed it here: it went largely unnoticed.

There are only two things that'll settle the matter for me. If it's real I want to see aq body. If it's a fake I want to see the suit and examine the suit for DNA evidence. Until then I just don't know if it's real or not.
