Astronomers have found what they believe to be the weirdest object in our solar system, a dwarf planet located in the Kuiper belt known as Haumea is as big across as Pluto but is shaped like a "big squashed cigar".
The dwarf planets and other objects that litter the Kuiper belt in the far reaches of our solar system are a strange bunch, but astronomers have found what they think might be the weirdest one."

As you get farther out from the Solar System and further away from it's center is it really suprising that the shape of celestial objects may start to change more easily? Think of streams and the way smooth rock forms. That this body is further from the center may have something to do with it's elongated shape.

How can an object that large be unable to pull itself into a spherical shape? It defies the laws of gravity!

No weirder than Saturn's Moon, Atlas. It looks like a classic saucer shaped UFO. Or Saturn's other Moons, the Potatoe shaped Janus and it's counterpart, Epimetheus.
