But seriously, that is a lenticular cloud. I can't say that they didn't see a mile-wide alien starship, but the object in the photo is definitely only a cloud. Definitely, im sure pilots never see clouds. They must have been dumbfounded.

Ockham's razor cuts the other way. "God made it" is a heck of lot easier than expounding a model of the Big Bang. Actually, the Big Bang is a good example of the usage of Ockham's Razor. Increasing amounts of handwavium "oh, it was an inflaton... which we haven't a clue about other than it propping up our model" equals an unworkable theory. Oh come on, these people are trained and know what they are talking about, to claim that what they saw was nothing more than a cloud is frankly an insult. A very old case. In this instance a trained pilot had to re-estimate the nature of the sighting and size of the object before it became 'a mile wide UFO' - therefore his judgment seems rather subjective.
