Research shows that the older a spider is, the more chaotic its web design is.
During their short lifespan, spiders are just as erratic in old age as some humans can be. They start life being neat and tidy with their webspinning only to become chaotic and messy nearer the end of their lives.
It's not just humans who struggle with their concentration in old age – spiders suffer from senior moments too. Researchers have found that common house spiders lose the ability to weave neat webs as they approach the twilight of their life. While youngsters produce tidy circles with perfect angles and evenly spaced gaps, their older counterparts’ efforts include gaping holes and eccentric patterns.
