Germany has come up with a novel new way to stop drunk revelers from relieving themselves on walls.
Public urination has proven to be an ongoing issue in some cities, especially in areas where the abundance of clubs, bars and other drinking establishments ensures a steady supply of intoxicated partygoers stumbling around in the early hours of the morning.
Now in an effort to tackle this problem a local interest group from the St. Pauli's nighclub district in Hamburg has come up with a unique way to discourage people from using the walls of public buildings as a convenient place to go to the bathroom.
The solution involves coating the walls with a special hydrophobic paint that is so water-resistant than anyone who pees against it will end up having their urine bounced back all over them.
"This paint job sends a direct message back to perpetrators that their wild urinating on this wall is not welcome," said Julia Staron. "The paint protects the buildings and the residents and most importantly it sends a signal this behavior is not on."
The deterrent has turned out to be surprisingly effective so far.
