China is working on a hypersonic spaceplane

China is aiming to revolutionize space travel by developing an ambitious new plane/spacecraft hybrid.
Currently being worked on by The China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CATSC), the new vehicle will be capable of not only taking off and landing vertically on a runway, but will also have the ability to fly in to orbit using a powerful set of onboard rocket motors.

Equipped with a ramjet engine as well as either a turbofan or turbojet engine, the spacecraft will be reusable like NASA's old space shuttles and could usher in a whole new era of space travel.
The news follows on from reports that Russia is also said to be building what it calls a "combined aircraft engine" for its PAK-DA strategic bomber which would be able to launch nukes from space.

It looks like the skies are likely to become a lot more crowded over the coming decades.

See, you should have used your local Saskatchewan Sealskin tires! Much better, especially in icy weather!  And yes, there is a lot of nasty junk coming out of China, I hear now they are injecting shrimp with gel (I have no idea what kind) so they can get more money per pound when they sell it on the world market.

China have released this video of their working prototype, specially dubbed for English-speaking audiences. It seems they may be further advanced in the development of a hybrid space/plane than either Russia or the US.

Sigh... American driven paranoia about someone other than them having nukes, because you know, nothing else can be built in the whooole wide world other than weapons, right? Things to invade, kill and terrorize people with.. Than again, they say it's only natural to suspect everyone else of your own tendencies heh...   Besides, people still talk about nukes like it's a valid thing to use *shakes head* Arguing about nukes is more akin to a bunch of people, all standing knees deep in a pool of gasoline - arguing which one has more matches and is not afraid to use them! Either way, they all lo... [More]

We got a hypersonic space plane mission as well: http://www.space.com/26838-air-force-hypersonic-skylon-space-plane.html I think the idea of hypersonic space flight great and I think that all the major airlines will eventually invest in this new mode of travel.
