The Facebook user who started the campaign to storm the secretive military base has finally spoken out.
What started out as little more than a joke on social media has since turned in to one of the most unique and widely-publicized events of the year despite still being several months away.

As of writing, over 1.5 million people have pledged to participate in what has been dubbed "Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us" which is set to take place on September 20th.

Now the man who originally posted the event on Facebook - California resident Matty Roberts - has finally agreed to come forward and be interviewed about the remarkable phenomenon.

"I posted it on like June 27th and it was kind of a joke," he said. "And then it waited for like three days, like 40 people, and then it just completely took off, out of nowhere. It's pretty wild."

Roberts stated that when the number of sign-ups reached the hundreds of thousands he started to become concerned that he would end up receiving a visit from the FBI.

"I just thought it would be a funny idea for the meme page," he said. "And it just took off like wildfire. It's entirely satirical though, and most people seem to understand that."

Despite being started as a joke however, the event has since taken on a life of its own and now small businesses in the vicinity of Area 51 are bracing themselves for a mass influx of visitors.

Little A'Le'Inn owner Connie West reports that all her rooms are fully booked for September.

"I'm just a little scared, but bring it," she said. "We'll do our best. I don't believe they should be doing this and breaking the law. Just don't believe that."

I think that the Storm Area 51 movement has been pretty good at making URS Corp **** its collective pants.  They simply couldn't contain 185,000 people with or without lethal force, using their present security force.

lol, one machine gun burst in front of them, and they will be running for their lives creating stampede, and killing hundreds themselves, this is not the crowd that would keep walking under fire.

If anyone thought they could storm Area 51 they are asking for a deathwish.

People will show up, probably just to see if other people show up. Will they actually storm the base? i highly doubt it, though there will be a few that feel they need to impress those watching and get themselves detained or possibly arrested. Storm a military base, that's funny. What's next, storm the Pentagon?

And also the US Air Force Museum, so it's (a) not exactly a Secret Base; (b) already reasonably publically accessible, and (c) I doubt they'd still have any aliens or recovered Saucers there still.

I follow it on facebook. The actual number was over 2 million signed up with 1.5 million interested. Of course that was before the fbi shut it down twice, and then it reappeared with the time skewed and a distracting festival in motion. The local police stated that they dont have the capacity to handle an influx of 500 people. This will be interesting because i think its bigger than you guys realize. Every day there are more and more people booking travel for it from all over the world asking what we need.

Right i wanted to go just to watch too, but alas i am a single mom so i cant. It will definitely be quite a party budweiser is setting up a beer garden, arbys is sending a food truck, limp bizkit is performing and now with a whole festival in works people are lining up to cash in on the event so im sure thats only the beginning. I think it is looking to be something like burning man.
