The incident, which is being investigated by Russian authorities, could be linked to similar sightings over other countries.
According to reports, the object was spotted on Wednesday over the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant in the city of Sosnovy Bor in the Leningrad Oblast.

Descriptions of it in the media have been varied, with one report claiming that it was seen at an altitude of around 10,000 feet and was moving at speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour.

Military officials tasked with investigating the case stated that it was neither a plane nor a drone.

"The unknown object moved at the speed of the wind," said one official.
"This means it doesn't have engines, which means it isn't a drone or an airplane."

Confusion quickly spread over the nature of the incident, however, when Leningrad Oblast Deputy Governor Mikhail Ilyin moved to dismiss the story entirely by claiming that the information was untrue.

Given the possibility that the object could be some sort of balloon, the sighting has been likened to other recent sightings of alleged 'spy balloons' over the US and elsewhere.

As things stand, Russian officials are monitoring the object but are otherwise 'unconcerned'.

very confusing if you ask me. "moving at speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour."   ...  "moved at the speed of the wind"; hurricane's start at 118 km/h   still sounds manmade to me.

The polar jet stream can travel at speeds greater than 180 km/h (110 mph). Here, the fastest winds are coloured red; slower winds are blue. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jet_stream&ved=2ahUKEwi3gIKn85j-AhUJJjQIHZhgDTwQFnoECAoQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0GjIg0YoOqzxQOz-_Odgvn
