The museum has long been a popular tourist destination with hundreds of thousands of people visiting it every year.
Founded in 1991 at the site of a 1930s movie theater, the International UFO Museum and Research Center is situated in Roswell, New Mexico - home to one of the most famous UFO incidents of all time.

Inside, visitors can find a variety of UFO-themed exhibits as well as a veritable library of material concerning the Roswell incident itself as well as the general history of the UFO phenomenon.

Some of its most famous exhibits include a miniature model of the Roswell crash site, an alien autopsy scene and even an interactive exhibit that puts you in control of an alien spaceship.
Now the museum is celebrating a major new milestone - 5 million visitors - with an unsuspecting father and daughter from Roswell itself winning free lifetime membership.

In total, around 220,000 people descend on the museum every year from all over the world.

It also serves as the focal point of the popular UFOfest event that is held in the town every year.

I live in New Mexico and I have never been, the festival coincides with July 4th I think.   I used to go to Roswell a lot for work in the 90's.  I have been in the museum.  When it was new it had a wall of hoaxes and my friend's dad was on that wall.  I am sure it is very differnt now than it was in the 90's.

His name and his hoax were on the wall.   Thanks for pointing out my irrational wording.     One night when he and his friend were sitting on the bank of the river drinking they saw lights in the sky.   His friend got scared and ran, but he claims that a craft landed next to where he was on the river bank and people came out of it and talked to him.  Then they flew away.  The next day he told everyone he met about it and everyone laughed and told him he was just an old drunk.   No one believed him so he photographed a pie plate hanging in a tree as proof that he saw a craft.   There we...
