Around the world, UFO enthusiasts are celebrating anything and everything to do with the phenomenon.
Intended to help raise awareness of "the undoubted existence of UFOs", World UFO Day is a special event for UFO enthusiasts and researchers as well as for disclosure advocates who are attempting to encourage world governments to reveal what they know about UFOs.

The day also commemorates what is perhaps the most famous UFO case of them all - that of the object which crashed on a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico and was later covered up by the military.

The incident itself is likely to be familiar to anyone with an interest in the topic of UFOs.

In 1947, William Brazel - a foreman working on the Foster homestead - had discovered a quantity of strange debris spread out approximately 30 miles north of Roswell.
He returned with his family to gather some of it up, but after hearing reports about 'flying discs' he decided to mention it to Sheriff George Wilcox.

Wilcox then spoke to RAAF Major Jesse Marcel who, alongside Captain Sheridan Cavitt, came to examine the debris for himself. After collecting some of the material, Marcel took it to Colonel William Blanchard who, in turn, reported the incident to General Roger Ramey at Fort Worth.

In an official announcement on July 8th, public information officer Walter Haut declared that a "flying disc" had been found in the area. By the time the story had been broadcast on Roswell radio station KSWS, the news had reached the Associated Press and word had begun to spread fast.

The rest, as they say, is history.

You can read our full rundown of the incident in our encyclopedia - here.

Coming from the guy who makes up stuff as he goes then calls others liars.

I never give out personal information to anyone online and as far as I know the policy of every site like this one is not to disclose personal information. I know some posters can't find something else to say for the sighting I had and they are bringing up irrelevant conversations. The World UFO Day is coming to an end but the spirit of the day must remain. Raising awareness on the UFO phenomenon should be the top priority for the people who care for this subject.

Earl it's not personal information. Those details provide clarity and context to what Mr. A states. For example, if he says he saw a UFO at (fill in the blank location) on (fill in the blank date), around (fill in the blank time). Then we can then see if there might be corresponding reports to his claimed sighting. See if there was an item that matches his deion made in other reports. That's logical and reasonable right? Same thing applies to his claims of service. His occupational specialty and base assignments will help inform us on his professional training and how that forms his opinions. ... [More]

The city and state of an alleged sighting is simply not personal information of a sensitive nature unless of course the story teller desires to claim it is which to me is a cop out and does drive a nail in the person's integrity and credibility. So be it. The forum already makes any story told on here anonymous so I do enter into each case with questions to weed out the gamers. Think about a couple threads on this forum high ranking retired military have given their names, time, day date location of their alleged sighting like the one claiming a craft the size of a Walmart lit up like a disco ... I nearly beat the breaks out of a guy who said he was a operative in South and Central America but didn't know what a MOS, SERE or even what Camp Sherman was.

Well, you right you didn't say anything about your MOS. Anyway, while it certainly is your right to your privacy, being as cryptic as you have will draw criticism and unfortunately you just have to deal with that. So, what was your Military Occupational Specialty in the Airforce? Peace Man

You are now an investigator and inspector?! Good Lord! The minimal items of information is what I decide the minimal items are and not external parties. My story is there. Either you accept it or reject it. You are not obliged or forced to do either way. But I ve noticed it's only a few accounts that have problems with everything or trying to find problems when there aren't any. Why is it? Can you explain it to me?

It's an anonymous story that's for sure. What information goes out it's something I decide and not someone else. These discussions are meaningless unless you have something to say about the incident instead of trying to find something to hold onto.

Nice ego trip there guy, get over yourself you are just telling a story with few details on a public forum and get butthurt when people reply, yeah whatever slick. Welcome to my ignore list.

I was wondering why do you have the need to come to the thread and tell me this? I insist it wasn't me who followed you around but the opposite. This is again one of my threads. The forum and site are private and not public. The public can view for free. I chose to tell the story with a few details of who I am and what I do. That's perfectly fine and I choose to present the story the way I want without disclosing personal information. Didn't you not enjoy the story? What about the World UFO Day? There are many stories of sightings all over the world and that's the most important aspect of havi... [More]
