The hit found-footage movie series, which began 17 years ago, saw its 7th entry released back in 2021.
When the original Paranormal Activity hit cinemas all the way back in 2007, few could have predicted that it would go on to spawn an entire franchise of 7 movies (and counting) as well as video games, comic books and more.
The first movie centered around a young couple, Katy and Micah, who were stalked by a demonic entity after moving into a new house in California.
The movie's various sequels continued to build upon the events of the original with the 7th entry in the franchise - Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin - releasing on streaming during the pandemic in 2021.
The franchise spawned a number of video games as well, including a mobile game - Paranormal Activity: Sanctuary - which was released in 2011 and Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul - a virtual reality game that was released on PC and other platforms in 2017.
Now, following an announcement by designer Brian Clarke and DarkStone Digital, a third game based on the franchise is currently in the works for release some time in 2026.
Named simply Paranormal Activity (at least for now), the game was revealed in a new trailer (view below) and while details are rather thin on the ground right now, it should be interesting to see how this one shapes up over the next couple of years.
"The success of the Paranormal Activity franchise epitomises the power and reach of the horror genre," Clarke told GameSpot.
"If you thought The Mortuary Assistant (Clarke's previous game) was scary, we're taking what we learned during the development of that title and cranking it up with a more reactive and horrifying haunting system. It's going to be intense!"
