The act of eating outrageously enormous portions of food has become strangely popular online in recent years.
The phenomenon, which originated in South Korea and is known as 'mukbang', typically involves an individual eating a large amount of food while live-streaming the whole thing to their fans over the Internet.

While it started out as a niche interest, over the years it has become increasingly popular and has spread all across the world with some countries even moving to block or ban the practice.

The biggest issue with it is when someone takes extreme eating way too far, with fatal results.

Most recently, 24-year-old Pan Xiaoting from China literally died during a livestream in which she had attempted to consume over 10kg of food including cake, chicken and seafood.

According to reports, she had actually ended up in hospital the day before due to gastrointestinal bleeding caused by over-eating, but incredibly this hadn't stopped her from continuing to binge the following day.
When she collapsed on stream, viewers attempted to send help but it was too late.

She died after her stomach literally tore open due to the extreme amount of food she had eaten.

The 'mukbang' phenomenon continues to prove divisive and is in fact outlawed in her native China.

Even so, many people continue to do it, attracting large audiences on social media.

Suffice to say, this is one online trend that you definitely don't want to try at home.
