The ruins of the temple were discovered unexpectedly during the excavation of a synagogue in Israel.
According to the New Testament, Jesus had once performed a number of miracles - including healing the sick - at a temple in the ancient Israeli city of Chorazin.
The remains of a synagogue dating back to 380 AD were found in the region back in 1905 and while pilgrims have long traveled there, no evidence of the original temple has ever been found.
Now, though, recent excavations at the site have finally revealed the discovery of a much older temple buried underneath that is thought to be the one at which Jesus performed his miracles.
While dating this older temple has proven challenging, pottery fragments and other artifacts found inside are now believed to date back to the first century AD.
This would put the temple at exactly the correct time and place to be the genuine article.
"This is a groundbreaking discovery," said lead archaeologist Achia Cohen-Tavor.
"I have been excavating all over [the globe], and, for me, it's definitely one of the most important excavations I've ever directed."
