Andrew Powell desperately tried to defend himself as the swarm cornered him in his own bathroom.
Getting stung by a wasp can be a painful experience at the best of times, so spare a thought for this unfortunate 57-year-old from Wales who found himself besieged by a huge swarm of the insects.

The nightmare began when a local farmer inadvertently disturbed a nest in a nearby field, prompting the swarm to target Powell who was out the front of his own house at the time.

Without warning, the insects began to sting him repeatedly, forcing him to retreat inside.

Unable to shake them, he even tried sheltering in his shower but even that wouldn't stop them.

"I stumbled about the front of the house and into the shower, but they followed me in, and stung me through my clothes in the shower," he said. "The bathroom was full of them."
He ended up being stung 160 times, including 15 times in the back of the head.

Fortunately, he was able to raise the alarm and his friend drove him to a nearby hospital.

"I was dropping in and out of consciousness," he said.

"All I could see was a white light and I thought 'here we go'."

Nurses quickly administered adrenaline, morphine and co-codamol for the pain.

"If it wasn't for that unit in Brecon and those two wonderful nurses on Sunday night, I wouldn't be here now," he said. "If they hadn't [helped me], then I'd be dead."

My worst nightmare.  I had a bad reaction and almost died from a yellow jacket sting on my head when I was a kid. I had to take weekly anti-venom shots for two years to help build up my immunity to wasps. If you ever want to see a grown man turn into a little girlie man, let a wasp fly around me... I absolutely despise yellow jackets.

A man who was stung hundreds of times by a swarm of wasps says he is still too scared to go outside. Andrew Powell, 57, initially thought he had been stung 160 times after they invaded his home near Brecon, Powys, on Sunday - but said he has now counted more than 250 stings across his body. Mr Powell is now recovering at home and has since discovered the full extent of the attack. As well as having counted more than 250 stings all over his body, he said there has also been a psychological impact. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c7031992pelo

I got about 15 on my legs once while cutting grass.  I had to go to ER due to my allergy. I once got stung while riding my motorcycle.  Lil basterd got in my riding jacket and stung me on my shoulder like three times.  Fortunately I didn't crash.  At first I thought a car kicked up a rock that hit me.  Also sent me to ER for observation. I don't mind honey bees, bumble bees.... even most paper wasp and hornets.  Most are not aggressive.  However, yellow jackets are just flying aholes with wings.  They have no sense of personal space. I am convinced there is something about me that attr... [More]

Mine was inside my jacket. A friend was giving me a lift to work. I put my jacket on and the next thing a new was that there were sudden and unexpected pains all across my back. 13 is a bit of a guess as my whole back was stung. Fortunately no allergic reactions. It seemed a very, VERY long 12 hour shift at work though.

Ouch.  I though the ones on my leg were just thorn pricks at first as I was cutting grass near a bush.  Finally after a few they got my attention!  Easily broke Usain Bolts 100 meter time getting away....
