An F-16 Viper fighter jet was reportedly struck by an unknown object while flying over the US state.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the incident - which occurred on January 19, 2023 - involved an F-16 Viper fighter jet being struck by an unidentified object over Arizona.

The aircraft had been flying in restricted airspace over Gila Bend at the time.

The object itself, described as an "orange-white UAS" (uncrewed aerial system), struck the rear of the plane's canopy, causing the glass to crack. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

Furthermore, at least three other reports of unknown objects were also made in the area, which encompasses the Air Force's Barry Goldwater Range near the Arizona-Mexico border.
The incident is just one of 22 cases involving US fighter pilots encountering or colliding with unknown objects over the state in less than a year.

A recent report by the Department of Defense's All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) also revealed that there have been hundreds of such incidents across the United States.

Exactly what the UFO was in this particular case remains unclear, although there is some speculation that it may have been a drone operated by persons unknown.

The findings of official investigations into the collision continue to remain under wraps.

I noticed that someone added a word in your link title ... ? Here is the less "glowing" one.   The military jet was struck midair by “an orange-white UAS,” or “uncrewed aerial system,” the FAA documents said. The term refers to drones. Drones and other flying objects such as the Chinese spy balloon in 2023 are “clearly being passed through multiple U.S. military reporting streams,” the outlet added. The cartel has used the technology — which is difficult to track — to move up to 10 kilograms of drugs at a time, NewsNation reported.  https://nypost.com/2025/05/18/us-news... [More]

Struck caused damage? Drones. FAA should do it's job.  Why this continues to be labeled ufo. It's not.

Its only labeled UFOs to tinfoilers and the media/social media trying to get clicks/views. The FAA (and pretty much everyone else) are talking about drones "uncrewed aerial system" and balloons... didnt you see my post?

Thing is, we can't say with absolute certainty exactly what the small object was, nor who it belonged to. That makes it a UFO (it was an object in the air that is unidentified) Which means it's almost certainly a secret alien spacecraft from another planet - and anyone who says otherwise is ignoring all the stories from the 1950s about completely different things that prove this was a secret alien spacecraft from another planet! Think that's how the (il)logical reasoning goes?

I wonder how a drone could do this to a jet in mid-air. It seems to me the drone would have to be flying faster than the jet.          The object itself, described as an "orange-white UAS" (uncrewed aerial system), struck the rear of the plane's canopy, causing the glass to crack.

If they have not actually identified it then technically it is a UFO.  They speculate that it is a drone but what make and model, who was directing it, where did it come from, etc.?

Wheredid you get that from? What I see is that the FAA reported... "One of the unidentified flying objects hit the clear bubble “canopy” over the head of a pilot in a $63 million F-16 Viper jet in January 2023, damaging it and temporarily grounding the plane."

Pretty concerning if you can that easily incapacitate an expensive fighter jet with a probably cheap drone.

My company was part of an FAA / Air Force investigation into a fatal crash of an F-16 because we made some components for the plane. The known fact was that the pilot lost contact and dove his craft into the ground. People were speculating about mechanical failure or suicide as being likely. Investigators found a little bit of blood inside the craft and on the outside of the unbroken canopy. A mystery. Tests ensued. A large bird collided with the craft. The canopy had deformed on impact without breaking. Unfortunately, it struck the pilot on the head and either stunned him or knocked him uncon... [More]
