Thick black smoke and flames now dominate the landscape around America's most infamous secret base.
Something is stirring in the Nevada desert and it isn't a reverse-engineered alien spacecraft.
Firefighters in the state are currently battling a major wildfire that began on July 4th and has since spread from an initial 8,000 acres to a staggering 35,000 - dominating the desert landscape with thick plumes of black smoke that can be seen from miles around.
The blaze was thought to have been spread by a combination of high winds and particularly dry conditions and it is now perilously close to the borders of the Area 51 base.
It's not just the base itself that is under threat, either, as local businesses which rely on UFO tourism, such as those in the small town of Rachel, could also be impacted by the blaze.
The famous 'Extraterrestrial Highway' has become quite perilous, with tourists who had already ventured to the area being unable to travel any closer to the base in fear of being cut off by the fire.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, however, the blaze has managed to reignite interest in the Area 51 mystery as UFO enthusiasts around the world keep up-to-date with what's happening.
In all likelihood, the fire won't actually reach the base itself and so far the surrounding towns are safe.
Once the fire is under control, UFO tourism in the region will likely continue to thrive.
