Some Mormons believe that Bigfoot is the biblical Cain who killed Abel

Bigfoot.

An obscure piece of Mormon folklore tells the story of how Cain was cursed to wander the Earth for his sins.
A number of possible explanations for the Bigfoot legend have been put forward over the years ranging from mistaken identity to alien visitors, but one origin story that is perhaps not as well known is that found in the writings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (or the Mormons).

Back in the 19th Century, it was written in Mormon folklore that the Biblical figure Cain - who killed his brother Abel - was cursed to wander the Earth as punishment for the deed.

Furthermore, these writings allege, Cain and Bigfoot are in fact one and the same.
The idea seems to have stemmed from the story of Mormon leader David W. Patten who claimed to have encountered a "dark, hairy figure" who told him he was an outcast who wandered the forest.

There have also been other stories of such encounters in parts of the United States - especially in Utah where tales of "wild men" have circulated for centuries.

While this idea isn't actually part of official Mormon teachings, it remains an intriguing piece of forgotten folklore that might even help to explain the origins of the Bigfoot phenomenon.

To be fair they are quite polite. I had two Mormon girls call in, very attractive young women. I put on my sleaziest face and asked them in for a coffee . They politely took off like rockets and have never come around again ??.

All the mormons I have ever know are very kind, polite people.   And they only let the missionairies recruit (usuallly young men who can afford to take a year or two off school and travel).  You will not hear one prostelytize in any other situation unless you ask them questions.

I don't know how polite it is to ring my doorbell and proselitize, especially with the No Soliciting sticker on the side window. I just point to it and shut the door.

My experience is that they are more polite than the jehjova's witness people.   All you have to do is say "I am  not interested in talking to anyone about the bible"  and they will thank you for your time and leave.  The Jehova's witness people argue and try to sell their little pamphlet, even pushing their way into your house uninvited sometimes.

Because the Mormon missionaries are polite, inexperienced boys.  Jehovah's Witness sends out gangs of older men and ladies who will take any niceness as a cue to try to push inside your door.

Sometimes it isn't even "niceness", they are pushy and telling them no thank you or I don't care to discuss the bible just makes them worse.   As a child I was taught to read the bible, we had to memorize the order and names of all the books, new testament and old, and even though I didn't stick with the programming of the religion I remember "popular" quotes, except that we were taught to read whole sentences for meaning, not cherry pick phrases.   One day when I was about 19 I was sitting on the porch with my friend and an old man with a young boy that was not his kin showed up to sell the... You need a bigger sign.     But the way you handle it is a good way, in my opinion.   I have been looking for a "No Soliciting" sign everywhere and can't find one.  I am thinking I will just paint it on the wall next to my gate.   I have a lot more problems with the dratted solar panel salesman than the religious recruiters.

When I was living in Washington state, I had two Jehovah witnesses that used to come by my house on Saturdays. I really got tired of them bothering me so I scared the hell out of them by answering the door with fake blood on my hands and a butcher knife. After that, they never came back although they did call the police, I just told the cop I had no idea what they were talking about.

The JW stopped coming to my childhood house after my dad ran out if the house nude trying to stop the German Shepards from biting them. Apparently a naked man rolling around on the ground in a pile of dogs screaming profanities, was too much for them.
