The Russian and Chinese leaders had a brief discussion about ways to live forever at their recent meeting.
If you ever wondered what sort of things leaders such as Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping actually talk about when they are not discussing politics, a notable conversation between them was picked up on a hot mic when they were walking with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at an event in Beijing last week.

"Now they say that at 70 you are only a child," Xi told Putin via a translator.

Using biotechnology, Putin replied, it will soon be possible to "transplant human organs continuously, grow younger with age and perhaps even achieve immortality."

"Some have predicted that by the end of this century, humans could potentially live up to 150 years," Xi replied.
While the exchange was likely little more than small talk, it emphasized the interest both leaders have in remaining in power for as long as possible - even if it involves extending their lifespan.

While it is unlikely that either of them will have access to such technology anytime soon, what they said does have merit - it will likely be possible to live for a lot longer in the future.

Of course, access to such therapies will likely only be reserved for the rich and powerful.

Leaders like Putin and Xi would almost certainly be at the top of the list.

Quite an interesting discussion. As the article listed below mentions, organ transplants are not yet a ticket to immortality, but if scientists are able to eventually make rejection-free organs using genetically-altered pigs as the donors, that might change everything.  Organ transplants for immortality: Might Xi and Putin be onto something? https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cly1w9z72r6o

Hmmm, how would they transplant a brain, not many would want a pig brain ? .

While a full brain transplant is currently not possible, some forms of tissue transplantation are being developed. That might perhaps lead to ways of significantly slowing brain aging and/or preventing an aging brain from disrupting vital bodily functions.

One may, and perhaps likely, revert to being a child upon turning 70.

i have to disagree, as there a lot of people in need of an upgrade

What's interesting to me about the leader's hot-mic conversation, is that they would likely have direct knowledge(or easy access) of any significant and safe developments in human longevity research, and at the very deepest levels of any "secrecy", too. So the fact that neither said anything stunning, kind-of presents that any genuine and safe life-extension treatments are still a ways off. The Chinese leader did suggest that it might still be 75 years before we double our life span (and who knows who is able to receive treatments even then). I personally suspect that AI will significantly acc... [More]

In the article, it says: Using biotechnology, Putin replied, it will soon be possible to "transplant human organs continuously, grow younger with age and perhaps even achieve immortality." Importantly, as human life is essentially organ-based, it is obvious that by addressing organ failure you directly address death.
