The latest candidate for the Darwin Awards decided to swallow the burger in its entirety 'for a joke'.
According to reports, the bizarre incident happened when a 22-year-old man, who hails from Greece, decided to try downing an entire burger without chewing it at all for a laugh.

It goes without saying that the stunt didn't go the way he had hoped.

"The moment we realized something was wrong was when he was hitting his back against a column, probably trying to spit it out or something," one of his friends recalled.

At one point, it was believed that he had stopped breathing for a full two minutes.

Inevitably, he had to be rushed to hospital where he was placed on a ventilator.
"He can only be saved by a miracle, he is in a very critical condition," said Michalis Giannakos, President of the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Workers.

"Even if he received first aid, a doctor's intervention is needed because when the brain is left without oxygen, irreparable damage is caused."

Police officers are now going through CCTV footage to find out exactly what happened.

Suffice to say, trying to swallow an entire burger without chewing is an incredibly stupid thing to do.

In other words - please don't try this at home.

Yes..many moons ago you could go into your cache to dig up videos or images that you wanted to see again but dial-up WAS a nightmare as it took usually fifteen minutes or more to load a 5 minute video but..at that time most people couldn't afford hi-speed nor did they have the equipment for it but on the other hand hi-speed internet is still really expensive considering all the optic cables inlaid to the ground and towers and such to make it more accessible and so on. I was lucky to find a provider that provided simply what I needed which was internet access; no streaming and stuff..just basic... [More]

When you are young and foolish with no bearings, you are bound to do all kind of nonsense without due diligence in order to impress the girls and friends and boost one's self-esteem. This however, often becomes a recipe for disaster. The Greek philosopher Socrates had emphasized self-examination and self-knowledge for navigating the uncertainties of life better.

Man I know someone who has been eating that way their whole life. And trying to carry 500 pounds around has destroyed her ankles, knees and hips.

Of course, today's youth are more stupid. It's enough just to see of music bull**** they listen to, and everything is prrfectly clear.

That 'joke' backfired on him good style, the poor guy, but what a stupid thing to do. I hope he recovers.

As do I. Regardless of his well-deserved admonishment and embarrassment I do hope he recovers with no lasting effects.

The 'music' or games or the like really has no major role, it is parenting (or the lack thereof) plus a society that refuses to enforce rules, and common sense as well as overly shielding them from liability and accountability for their actions. Many kids are not being taught how to think critically and this man is too old to be acting this stupid. Perhaps he was allowed to act foolishly as a child, perhaps even at the table or in restaurants his parent believed in 'free range' children by letting them do whatever they please with the assumption that they are going to magically figure it out.
