A light shining in the night

Image Credit: sxc.hu Hi, didn't quite know what place to go to talk about this and am not sure if I'm typing the right place for this but I think something strange happened to me when I was young.

I couldn't sleep when I was a young boy, say 10 or 12, and while I was staring ahead to where my room door was ajar slightly and my dark navy curtains directly over me were drawn what looked like a flash light seem to suddenly snap-on into my room diagonally up the far wall. Its as if someone was standing mid-way up the stairs and shining a light diagonally up into my room hence up the far wall.

There was a hard bed base leaning up against the top landing of the stair banisters, I, terrified it was a burglar that could potentially kill me, got up and proceeded to walk over to it. I just got up to the door and was brave enough to peep my head around the door when I my face immediately looked straight into the beam.

It looked like what appeared to be a flashlight or torch almost slightly jiggling as if someone was holding it and ever-so-slightly or gingerly shaking the thing back-and-forth as if it or who/what was commanding/holding it was trying to somehow hypnotize me.

I just slammed to door on it and woke up my Mum in the adjacent room and my sister one room over. I shouted in crying 'I saw a light!' When Mum came out turning on the landing light and my sister came out we all looked around and downstairs and there was nothing or no-one there.

Added to that, we all new and still know that our bottom stairs from the ground all the way up to the top creak and groan and yet I heard nothing because I was up and awake all night until the light appeared.

I need to know, I felt that it was a 'someone' behind that light that looked like a flashlight or torch... what do you think, does this sound like some type of alien encounter of some kind and could you perhaps offer me more insight and information on this inquiry, thank you.
