Granda Thomas lived in Russiaville, Indiana. The town was a small rural farming community outside of Kokomo Indiana. Grandpa Cecil Thomas built their house sometime in the 1940's after a tornado had wiped out most of the town. As family lore goes, it was built on or near an old cemetery. Grandma Thomas and her husband had adopted my father and all six of his brothers and sisters when they were young to keep the family together, in actuality she was their great aunt.
The house which I had visited several times was really odd. It gave off an eerie vibe, for practically no reason at all. In the back bedroom of the house hung a large wall painting of a scenic overview of some river, along with the painting was a small closet. This closet wasn't deep, it had shelves in it, but someone could not go inside of it.
Sometime in the early 1970's when my father was around 8 or 9 years old while sleeping in the back bedroom with his brothers he witnessed something frightening. He recalls being awake, when suddenly a large hairy creature walks out from the closet, grabs his brother Jerry who was in the bed next to him asleep, places him in the closet, and take his spot in the bed. Being frightened as anyone would my father screamed and the creature turned over in bed and looked at him, and pulled the covers over its head. Grandma Thomas flipped on the lights and checked the bed. Jerry was still in bed asleep.
My Uncle Jerry also recalls a story from the house, in 1973 when the kids were old enough to ride the school bus they would act as boys did, causing trouble. They would particularly cause trouble with the school bus driver who was overweight. One night while sleeping, my Uncles Jerry and Monty were woken up with the bus driver standing at the foot of the bed mangled and covered in blood. Less than ten minutes later Grandma Thomas had received a phone call saying that the bus driver had been killed.
The bus driver had been in his truck driving when an oncoming car swerved and was about to collided head on. The man tried to jump out of his truck, got stuck and the truck ran over his head, killing him.
