Half of babies 'will live to 100'

Increases in life expectancy will mean that babies born today could live to be 100 years old a new study has claimed, it has also been found that the chances of living past 80 have doubled since the 1950's.
More than half of babies now born in the UK and other wealthy nations will live to 100 years, researchers say. The study, published in The Lancet journal, also says the extra years are spent with less serious disability.

I disagree with the statements made here. From what I understand, the OLDEST people have not been getting significantly older. What has been happening for the past 150 years was the elimination of pathologies that kill you early - vaccinations and antibiotics helping infectious disease, far fewer women dying in childbirth, the incredible reduction of infant mortality, etc. This has had a PROFOUND impact on average life expectancy - it didn't matter if you could live to 85 if you were cut down by smallpox at 9. Not in the UK they won't. Too much fat and alcohol topped of with Europe's worst drug problem.
