Is 'ghost particle' proof of alien life ?

Are alien organisms living in our planet's upper atmosphere ? Image Credit: NASA
Astrobiologists believe that they have found evidence of alien life in our planet's atmosphere.
Back in September a group of astrobiologists led by Professor Milton Wainwright made major headlines when they announced that they had found biological particles high up in the stratosphere, the outermost region of our planet's atmosphere.

The researchers went on to speculate that these "dragon particles" could represent the first direct evidence that extraterrestrial life forms exist in other parts of the universe.

Now the team has returned to the limelight to reveal new details about their ongoing study in to what they are now calling "ghost particles" due to their wispy appearance under a microscope.

Wainwright and his colleagues suggest that these microscopic biological structures could be tiny living 'balloons' that alien microbes can inflate and use to float around in a planet's atmosphere.
"The particle is definitely biological," the team wrote. "We can speculate that in its space environment this ‘ghost particle' is a living balloon which an alien microscopic organism might inflate with lighter than air gasses allowing it to float in the air or the seas of an unknown space environment."

This latest development follows on from the recent discovery by Russian astronauts of diatomic plankton on the surface of the International Space Station, an indication that organisms from the surface of our planet can contaminate spacecraft and be carried in to orbit.

Despite this however Wainwright's team is adamant that the 'ghost particle' is not of this Earth.

"They appear on the sampling stubs in an absolutely pristine condition with no contamination like pollen, grass or pollution particles," the researchers wrote.

"Unless a means of lifting them from Earth exists which selectively sieves them out from other Earth-derived debris then they must be incoming from space."

You didn't "know". Unless you read the article before or knew that he was associated with the article through some other means then you couldn't have possibly known. Chandra seems to be associated with every single claim of alien life raining from the skies, he is the Chicken Little of science. With a claim like this, it would be surprising if he was not in there chanting microbial alien life mantras. Also, just so I don't deviate too far from the topic I should just echo what others have said that the most logical explanation is likely that these ghost particles aren't extraterrestrial in ori... I'm not sure why people would doubt that organic material could get to the height of where this "ghost particle" was collected. It says right in the article that they collected it with a balloon. A BALLOON. So clearly stuff can get up there if it is light enough. From OP Link: They were able to collect the particle from the stratosphere, at an altitude of about 27 kilometers, by sending up balloons during last year’s Perseid shower. It's not like the particle (was there only one?) was found in the exosphere....

Nice visual of parachuting alien life forms . Are they trying to land or get away ?

In theory, it could be bacteria/microbes from outer space, that as adapted and evolved to the earths upper atomsphere/stratosphere.

Well, no. Alien life would be "proof" of alien life. All the rest is more or less educated speculation.

Nice visual of parachuting alien life forms . Are they trying to land or get away ? If they are intelligent they'd be saying "Run away! Run away!" Well, no. Alien life would be "proof" of alien life. All the rest is more or less educated speculation. I wonder about the educated part sometimes.

In theory, it could be bacteria/microbes from outer space, that as adapted and evolved to the earths upper atomsphere/stratosphere. Could they come from meteorites that fall through our atmosphere?

Could they come from meteorites that fall through our atmosphere? If you subscribe to Panspermia then it's likely at some point they might well have.

or there are unknown creatures in the upper atmosphere that are lighter than air and microscopic, why it got to be aliens all the time fairys might be a nice break ;D

I dont know what the surprise is regárding this development? If u look at most of the close up footage from the iss, I'd say that a large proportion of the small, close UFO's are biological organisms and behave as such on the footage,ie swarming the tether etc and some of them look similar to plankton, jellyfish or similar simple lifeforms. To me its a definite that our biosphere extends out farther than is thought, for that reason I'd dismiss a lot of the iss footage of very small or large numbers of UFO's that surround/swarm the iss, obviously I don't include any of the images or video that...
