Did rocket test cause mystery spiral ?

It is believed that a failed Russian missile test produced a mysterious spiral in the skies over Norway. The event started with a blue light that came up from behind the mountains and then moved in circles, filling the night sky.
What's blue and white, squiggly and suddenly appears in the sky? If you know the answer, pop it on a postcard and send it to the people of Norway, where this mysterious light display baffled residents yesterday. Speculation was increasing today that the display was the result of an embarrassing failed test launch of a jinxed new Russian missile.

We are told it was 400 miles wide and 350 miles high, pretty damned big even for a missile. Sorry about the sigh... however did you read the link I posted? Sorry about the sigh... however did you read the link I posted? Estimation of the Location, Trajectory, Size, and Altitude of the "Norway Spiral" Phenomenon by Tony Spell, M.Sc. Ocean Engineer - © SpellConsulting.com The author gives a very good account of his methodology and provides a thorough mathematical analysis regarding both the photographic evidence and the mechanics involved for a rocket test to produce the phenomena as it was observed. The analysis and conclusions presented by Mr. Spell are in agreement with the Russian explanation of a third stage malfunction of a Bulava SLBM launc... [More]

A quick overview of the Bulava SLBM The Bulava design is based on the Topol M , but is both lighter and more sophisticated. The two missiles are expected to have comparable ranges, and similar CEP and warhead configurations. The Russian military developed Bulava to ... [More]
