A soldier blinded by a grenade attack in Iraq is helping test out a new device that allows him to 'see' with his tongue.
A camera strapped to his head sends signals to a device that he places in his mouth which is able to communicate the shape of what's in front of him by turning it in to electrical impulses that he can feel with his tongue.
A soldier blinded in battle has become the first member of the armed forces to test a special pair of glasses which allow him to 'see' using his tongue. Lance Corporal Craig Lundberg, who was blinded in a grenade attack in Basra, is trying the glasses which turn pictures into electrical impulses that are felt on the tongue.

Wow. Here I thought this guy was going to be some kind of veteran wack job who really believed he could see with his tongue. What a let down. On the bright side, what does this means for the future of sex toys?

this is not as impressive as i thought it was going to be Actually -- it *is* possible for the brain to be trained to perceive (literally see objects, surroundings) through tactile touch, when the eyesight is completely gone. It has been done. Karlis
