Scientist creates ice age park in Siberia

Russian scientist Sergey Zimov is reintroducing ice age animals in to the wilds of Siberia.
He hopes that by doing so he will be able to demonstrate his theory that animals such as wild horses, musk oxen and reindeer can help to turn the barren tundra in to tall grasses and complex roots that will stabilise the frozen soil.
Wild horses have returned to northern Siberia. So have musk oxen, hairy beasts that once shared this icy land with woolly mammoths and saber-toothed cats. Moose and reindeer are here, and may one day be joined by Canadian bison and deer.

I believe the exact point of this park is that you and everyone else will NOT go. This is not a safari park, it's a nature preserve to attempt to save the planet from a worse catastrophe. The only people who are likely to even be allowed near it will be the scientists involved, and all others will be kept out. I don't think they intend to bring back extinct species, just protect and use the ones still alive. Well, for what its worth, if they do have wooly mammoths and we still don't get to go, I want my money back.

XD They might let limited hunting in, once the ecosystem is fully viable and some surplus animals appear. With the current problems they have, I think it'll be a long while before that happens.

This is great news. Very refreshing to see something like this taking place. I hope they think twice about a wolf population. That can get out of control fast.

-_- Ah screw it. I knew it was a joke. *Sticks a warning sticker up on his profile: Joke at your own risk. Evil dog in the vicinity who eats jokes for breakfast and enjoys chewing on them thoroughly.* Yes, nature did find a way. It found a way to kill off those animals in the first place. Some of them by our hand, probably most by the climate's. So I doubt nature, or this doctor, will be involved in restoring mammoths or sabreteeth.

Interesting.... In principle the basic premis of what the man is trying to achieve is sound and I applaud his efforts, he is thinking big anbd I like that. It would not be THAT hard to re-popualt the tundra with lots of grazers and predators, simply set up a few small isolated populations and then leave them alone. It would take 30+ years for them to get properly established, but its a great idea.
