Italian researchers have discovered that the Mona Lisa could be Da Vinci's male apprentice.
Recently researchers at a German university said they'd cracked the mystery and that the painting was of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of rich Florentine merchant Francesco del Giocondo. Now however research in Italy has suggested the painting could show Da Vinci's male apprentice of 20 years - Gian Giacomo Caprotti.
The identity of the Mona Lisa, which hangs in the Louvre in Paris and draws 8. 5 million visitors a year, has been an enduring mystery. But now her (or is it his?) secrets are seemingly being revealed every few years.
