Italian researchers have discovered that the Mona Lisa could be Da Vinci's male apprentice.
Recently researchers at a German university said they'd cracked the mystery and that the painting was of Lisa Gherardini, the wife of rich Florentine merchant Francesco del Giocondo. Now however research in Italy has suggested the painting could show Da Vinci's male apprentice of 20 years - Gian Giacomo Caprotti.
The identity of the Mona Lisa, which hangs in the Louvre in Paris and draws 8. 5 million visitors a year, has been an enduring mystery. But now her (or is it his?) secrets are seemingly being revealed every few years.

i always thought the mona lisa was a self portrait,is'nt it? People thought the Mona Lisa was a self portrait of da Vinci because his OTHER self portrait combines with it. Which is true, but why would he do this?

So is the Mona Lisa just what happens when an artist paints like a thousand faces; they all start to look alike, or is it the world's first example of rule 63? Hard to say. Da Vinci was seriously the Renaissance man's Renaissance man. It has been argued that he incorporated entire musical scores into his paintings, so if he had a mind to do it, he certainly wasn't above sticking Easter eggs into his art.

The fact that they look so similar is probably just because of his style. Mona Lisa is "undoubtedly" Lisa Gherardini del Giocondo

The fact that they look so similar is probably just because of his style. Mona Lisa is "undoubtedly" Lisa Gherardini del Giocondo Refutation I've gotten that before and the link above is a long winded 'refutation' to that. If it was just because of his style they might look similar, but they wouldn't be so similar that when they are superimposed they actually make a new and even more clear face. (see my previous posts) Without a change is proportion or TRYING to make them fit together - all you have to do is resize them. Da Vinci painted many faces and drew even more - they don't all look the ... [More]

Brow ridge different. Nose different. Jaw different. Look a little closer, these two paintings are clearly of different, though slightly similar people.

The Mona Lisa painting was painted long ago and I think Leonardo Da Vinci was not a mysterious man,so I am prepared to believed the old story of Mona Lisa.
