Was there a nuclear blast on Mars ?

There used to be a ton of natural radioactivity on earth. With time it dies down, so your not going to get blown up by the ground anytime soon on earth as it is now, but it seems perfectly reasonable for it to happen on mars. Either way this story is complete bull IMO. I lost them when they failed to realize that mars is red due to the large number of minerals with that color, specifically iron. if you want to know what happened to the o2, i call it rust.

You are correct that U235 would have been more "plentiful" in the past. However, with a half-life not far off the age of the earth, it would not be THAT "plentiful". The half life of U235 is around 700 million years... Thats far enough off the age of the Earth. To make an atomic (fission) bomb, we need enrichment levels around 80%. Accordingly, I fear your "two-fold" enrichment - whilst conceivably enough for a low-level 'natural' nuclear reactor, producing only marginally more heat than the ambient "background" temperature - is woefully inadequate for any sort of atomic explosion. i don't think there is going to be a nuclear explosion without an outside trigger. the suns trigger is its gravity. doesnt matter how much nuke matterial you have. because we have found if it has enough room and it gets too hot it will just expand until it cools off.
