Was there a nuclear blast on Mars ?

An ancient, natural nuclear explosion may have once occured on Mars, turning everything to dry sand.
What's more the same thing may have once happened on Earth as well according to senior propulsion scientist Dr. John Brandenburg who believes the Mars explosion could have been the equivalent to 1 million one-megaton hydrogen bombs. "A nuclear explosion could have sent debris all around the planet," he says.
About 180 million years ago, a planet-shattering yet naturally occurring nuclear reaction may have wiped out everything on Mars, sending a shockwave that turned the planet into dry sand.

There used to be a ton of natural radioactivity on earth. With time it dies down, so your not going to get blown up by the ground anytime soon on earth as it is now, but it seems perfectly reasonable for it to happen on mars. Either way this story is complete bull IMO. I lost them when they failed to realize that mars is red due to the large number of minerals with that color, specifically iron. if you want to know what happened to the o2, i call it rust.

I’ve been trying to warn people for years over the dangers of naturally occurring nuclear explosions… they happen in my bathroom every morning!

Everyone knows it was capitalism that destroyed Mars.

Right... I hear you talking but it sounds like a bunch of speculation. Oh oh, who says they dropped it in themselves? Maybe it was a rogue group of E.T.'s that tried to gain their submission & couldn't, so decided to nuke them & head to Earth, instead? I'm just saying! *Natural explosion, my ass. The only place nuclear explosions occur NATURALLY is in stars, not on the surface of a planet. That's speculation on your part as well. I'm not saying it's not plausible, but there's no supporting evidence. You should look up the Tunguska Event. It has some eerie similarities, but not as stron... [More]

I found this video very interesting.

Not all reactions are explosive. You guys are confusing terms here pretty liberally.

Why assume it was a natural explosion? I blame the vimanas.

Quite the amount of people here acting as if they are knowledgable on the subject... Mirror, mirror on the wall...... Look up Oklo. Evidence suggests that it did infact happen on the Earth. There are no problems with it either. Did I suggest there was ? They were naturally higher in the past., and all you would need is roughly a two fold enrichment. If you are referring to Uranium (the only naturally occurring potentially fissile substance), then the actual fissile isotope (235) only constitutes about 0.7% of the Uranium found on Earth. (99.25% of which is the non-fissible U238). You are corre... [More]

You are correct that U235 would have been more "plentiful" in the past. However, with a half-life not far off the age of the earth, it would not be THAT "plentiful". The half life of U235 is around 700 million years... Thats far enough off the age of the Earth. To make an atomic (fission) bomb, we need enrichment levels around 80%. Accordingly, I fear your "two-fold" enrichment - whilst conceivably enough for a low-level 'natural' nuclear reactor, producing only marginally more heat than the ambient "background" temperature - is woefully inadequate for any sort of atomic explosion. But its ple... [More]

i don't think there is going to be a nuclear explosion without an outside trigger. the suns trigger is its gravity. doesnt matter how much nuke matterial you have. because we have found if it has enough room and it gets too hot it will just expand until it cools off.
