Lightning bolt threw family into the air

A family narrowly escaped after being thrown from their sofa following a lightning strike in their home.
The strike caused an electrical explosion that created two huge holes in the living room wall and thousands of pounds worth of damage. The freak event demonstrates that lightning can still pose a threat even in places where we least expect it.
A family are lucky to be alive after they were thrown into the air when their home was struck by lightning. Rebecca Weir and step-sister Lauren Deeble were catapulted clear of their sofa after a thunderstorm triggered an electrical explosion at their home in Newark, Nottinghamshire.

Lightning has been playing around for a long time. Once it struck a building then leaped across to a fire alarm box and set of the siren calling firemen who came and put the blaze out. (Popular Mechanics June 1956) Another incident happened in Ermelo, South Africa in 1953 when lightning struck a boy leading a team of eight oxen pulling a plough. He was knocked down and about to be trampled when lightning struck again, this time killing all eight of the animals. (Almanac of the Infamous, the Incredible and the Ignored.)

It's a lucky thing they're still alive.

It looks like the electronic appliances are what actually did the exploding. Batteries can certainly explode if they are overloaded, and a strike to the wiring could do that. It also could have been something like a Water Heater that blew up, something already under pressure... As we move into an ever increasingly electronic environment, perhaps a re-evaluation of the installation of Lightning Rods might be in order? -Brand

I'm not afraid of lightning, if it strikes me and I die, I turn into a ghost, if I survive, I get superpowers. Win win! ^^

I personally don't want to test whether lightning can throw me around. This is not the first time I've heard this tho. That's a lot of power, and very quirky. Heat shock wave? Air displacement alone might have enough force. Just a speculation.
