What will humans be like in 1,000 years ?

A new science video has been exploring what might become of our species over the next few centuries.
In the animal kingdom species are changing all the time and humans are no exception.

Even over the last 150 years we have seen mankind's average height increase by around ten centimeters and our average life expectancy rise by more than two decades.

But what is likely to happen to us over the next 1,000 years ? Will we even be recognizable ?

Transhumanism - the use of technology to repair and enhance our bodies, could eventually play a major role in many people's lives. Tiny robots called nanobots could swarm around inside us on a permanent basis and help with things such as removing artery blockages and fighting diseases.
Bionic augmentations could improve our eyesight, make us physically stronger, boost our brain power and enable all manner of enhanced superhuman abilities that do not occur naturally.

On the evolutionary side of things there are likely to be some changes too - for instance being thinner and taller may help us cope better with rising global temperatures.

We may even develop a few unique traits that are unheard of today such as red-colored eyes.
