A rather feisty tree-dweller has been hitting the headlines in northwest Novato over the last few weeks.
There's a dangerous beast on the loose in California but it's probably not what you think. According to recent reports, a violent squirrel has been terrorizing the area and has already attacked 8 people.

"The fact is, we want people to stay calm," said Lisa Bloch, a spokeswoman for the Marin Humane Society. "It's probably just one squirrel and a really unique situation."

The peculiar series of events began around three weeks ago when the squirrel jumped from a tree on to a man's head and attacked him while he was tidying up his yard.

Around five days later the bushy-tailed perpetrator entered a classroom at a nearby school and attacked one of the students as well one of the teachers who had been trying to help.
"This is one of those stories that's hard for us to hear," said WildCare communications director Alison Hermance. "It's a situation the squirrel has no doubt been fed by people and has been encouraged to get close to people. When he doesn't get what he wants - he attacks."

Residents have been advised to be on the look out and to remove hanging bird feeders and other objects that the squirrel might use to gain access to people's gardens.

The most recent attack involved 78-year-old Richard Williams who had been in his garden when the creature launched itself at him from a tree and left him with several injuries.

"He jumped me three or four different times," said Williams. "I got him off my shoulder the first time. He was clinging pretty hard. When I got him off, my hand and arm were torn up."

I remember seeing a squirrel fight off a large portly house cat, they are relentless and ferocious when under fire!

Nothing an air rifle won't fix. In the time it takes for you to c*** the barrel and fumble around for a pellet in you dungaree pockets, you could have the entire pride on your back opening your veins!

They believe that the squirrel more than likely died from the injuries sustained from being fought off by the 78 year old Richard Williams who tossed it to the ground on November 27th. The first attack was on November 13th and attacks were made every couple of days until November 27th, but it hasn't been reported since. Twitter also reports that the squirrels' Twitter account was also recently deleted.

If squirrels ever decide to have a revolt here I'm in trouble there is so many. Wish they would stop using the engine in my truck to store their nuts.
