The unusual heist saw a trailer loaded with confectionery being driven away in the town of Neustadt.
Among the stacks of cocoa-based produce illegally procured during the incident were hundreds of jars of chocolate-hazelnut spread Nutella and several crates of Kinder Surprise eggs.

Combined, the stolen goods were worth a total of around 50,000 euros.

Exactly how or why the thieves targeted this particular cargo remains unclear, however police investigators believe they must have used a separate truck to tow the trailer away.
What exactly they intend to do with all that chocolate also remains something of a mystery.

"Anyone offered large quantities (of chocolate) via unconventional channels should report it to the police immediately," said a spokesman.

The theft follows that of a truck full of fruit juice that was also stolen in Germany over the weekend.
