According to Pinotti, the incident occurred in Milan in 1932 and was the subject of a cover-up .

At the time, dictator Benito Mussolini had demanded "absolute silence" concerning what was described as an "unknown aircraft", prompting the formation of a secretive research team known as RS/33 which was headed up by none other than Guglielmo Marconi - the inventor of the radio. The UFO was recovered and stored in a military hangar for years but was eventually captured by the United States after Italy fell during the events of World War II.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Pinotti maintained that he had been anonymously sent a number of documents pertaining to the incident which showed that it had been covered up.

What became of the UFO after it was taken to the US, however, remains a mystery.
