A couple who had been walking along the sands was shocked to discover something very strange indeed.
Paula and Dave Regan had been strolling along the beach in Margate on March 10th when they came across an utterly bizarre spectacle that could perhaps best be described as a 'skeletal mermaid'.
"The beach was completely empty, so it really stood out," Paula told
Kent Online. "At first, I thought it was a bit of driftwood or maybe a dead seal because I could see these funny tail fin things."
"When we got up to it, it was the weirdest thing."
"For the life of me, I can't tell you what it was. The head looked skeletal, but the back part - where the fishtail was - was soft and squidgy. It didn't feel slimy or decomposed, but it was definitely strange."
Before long, a small crowd had gathered and people had begun speculating over what it could be.
"Some thought it might have fallen off a boat, while others suggested it could be a figurehead from a ship - like one of those carved mermaids," said Paula.
All that could really be determined for certain was that the 'creature' was artificially constructed.
Exactly who had made it and how it had ended up on the beach, however, still remains a mystery.
