Dead Sea Scrolls to be published online

The Dead Sea Scrolls are to be digitized and placed online for anyone to read.
One of the most important archeological finds of the modern era the Dead Sea Scrolls are a series of 30,000 fragments of 900 manuscripts containing texts from the time of Jesus.
Sixty years after they were discovered in a cave by a Bedouin shepherd in the West Bank, the Dead Sea Scrolls have been given a new lease of life and will be put online in a new digitized format by the Israel Antiquities Authority and Google.

It is cool, wish they did the same to the Nag Hammadi Library scrolls that are not yet published..

I think this is a good move by google, make it public. Quite funny though that someone has scribbled down some words on a piece of paper thousands of years ago, and now all the scholars are on their knees reading it with a loupe.

It is cool, wish they did the same to the Nag Hammadi Library scrolls that are not yet published.. What ones would those be?

I thought it was the Vatican hiding the scrolls from the public? Or do they have something else? This could change everything we think we know about the times 2000 years ago. And I for one, really hope it does. For once, yay for Google. Edit : And was there any mention anywhere of when these might be made available?

I think it's interesting that they have developed a super cool photography method that allows them to fill in the almost blank stuff. Will for sure have to check this out. Wonder what other blanks might be filled in?

Yes, this is a good question; not only for all those places where the names of the deities have been altered but also for where the contents have deliberately been edited.

Should be interesting to see how the digitized version turns out - this could be a valuable resource for scholars and researchers.
