Future robotic missions to Mars could use gas from the Martian atmosphere to "hop" large distances.
Gases gathered from the atmosphere could be compressed, liquified and then used to propel the probe up to a kilometer across the surface of the planet enabling it to traverse large distances in a short amount of time.
Nuclear decay-driven machines could gather gases from the atmosphere of Mars, giving future robotic missions leaps of a kilometre, researchers say. A design concept in Proceedings of the Royal Society A outlines an approach to compress CO2 and liquefy it.

Lets just hope they learned a lot from the last rover getting stuck and fixed everything. Don't need that happening again. This is so cool tho, I can't wait!

Hmmmmm.... I just wish they can just send a science vessel there serving both as a base of operation for a land exploration and an orbital satellite that they can control through mars orbit like the ones here on earth.... but I guess they have to take it one step at a time huh energy efficiency research first before anything else...

They need to have a mechanic stationed on Mars permanently.
