New research in to sharks has revealed that they are completely unable to see colours.
This means that divers wearing light-coloured swimsuits are less likely to become the victim of a shark attack as they will stand out less against the colour of the water. International Shark Attack File statistics back this up as the vast majority of attacks appear to happen to divers wearing black wetsuits.
Researchers discovered that the eyes of sharks, including bull and tiger sharks, are not designed to distinguish different colours and so they see the world in black and white. That means against the light blue of the sea, it would be better to wear light coloured swimwear in order to reduce the contrast with the water.
