Sharks found to be colourblind

New research in to sharks has revealed that they are completely unable to see colours.
This means that divers wearing light-coloured swimsuits are less likely to become the victim of a shark attack as they will stand out less against the colour of the water. International Shark Attack File statistics back this up as the vast majority of attacks appear to happen to divers wearing black wetsuits.
Researchers discovered that the eyes of sharks, including bull and tiger sharks, are not designed to distinguish different colours and so they see the world in black and white. That means against the light blue of the sea, it would be better to wear light coloured swimwear in order to reduce the contrast with the water.

i always wondered how scientist know that animals where color blind or not It has to do with the presence and amount of rods and cones, the color receptors in their eyes, and ours. I think if an animal has better night vision it affects the colors they see in relation to us.

Rods detect light but not colour, which is detected by cones therefore no cones no colour

Or just research where you swim? Yeah, but some people rather takes chance then take the time to do research.

Lucky sharks don't drive cars. They'd have trouble at the traffic lights. And road rage? Lets not go there.

The rods are very sensitive to detecting light even in low levels whereas cones need quite bright direct light. If you go outside at night you may notice everythings in black and white because the light isnt sufficient to stimulate the cones. There are three kinds of cone each detecting a different wavelength of light which the brain interprets as colour

Yeah, but some people rather takes chance then take the time to do research. It's called natural selection. That's what keeps the human species strong. LOL!
