Two Russians and one US astronaut have successfully launched from Kazakhstan aboard a Soyuz spacecraft.
The launch had been delayed for over a month due to problems with the hull but has now finally gone ahead as the three on board headed towards the International Space Station for a planned docking on Wednesday morning. Moscow is hoping that this trip will help restore confidence in the Russian space program following a spate of ill-fortune last year that included Russia's failed Mars probe.
The Soyuz spacecraft lifted off at 4:01am BST from the launch site in the steppes of Kazakhstan, with Nasa astronaut Joseph Acaba, veteran cosmonaut Gennady Padalka and Sergei Revin, who is making his maiden space flight, on board.
