Space elevator on the moon within 10 years ?

Entrepreneur Michael Laine believes we possess the technology to build a space elevator on the surface of the moon.
The idea of a space elevator has been around since the late 1800's, but despite big dreams and years of research, the low-cost, easy access to orbit that a space elevator promises is likely still decades away.

Slingshot method like a Wile E. Coyote failed attempt to catch Road Runner? Eureka you have done the impossible. I'm off to get my moon boots lol. As far as the elevator goes we better start making nano tubes now cause it's going to take a looooong time get enough to get that high.

Slingshot method like a Wile E. Coyote failed attempt to catch Road Runner? I think Wile got his ideas from Heinlein. LOL. Just didn't follow thru them well.

There is lots of research regarding this: http://www.physorg.com/search/?search=space+elevator http://search.eurekalert.org/e3/query.html?qt=space+elevator&col=ev3rel&qc=ev3rel&x=3&y=19 And again, I throw my $upport to KC SPACE PIRATES: http://www.kcspacepirates.com/

I think a space elevator would be a fantastic advancement. I'm just not going to hold my breath as not to many facilities are even thinking of producing a nano tube tether on this scale. Just won't happen for some time. 50 years maybe would be my guess befor we get enough commitment to the pr... [More]

Just gonna put this out there. It ain't an elevator. To me, it looks like one heck of a long ferry or cargo line. Elevator: "lifting device consisting of a platform or cage that is raised and lowered mechanically in a vertical shaft in order to move people from one floor to another in a building" "An elevator (or lift) is a vertical transport vehicle that efficiently moves people or goods between floors of a building. They are generally powered by electric motors that either drive traction cables and counterweight systems, or pump hydraulic fluid to raise a cylindrical piston." If I recall, an... [More]

I was only kidding about the big rock. Agreed it has potential but, just as others have noted, with the current economic climate it's hard to justify further exploration at the moment or in the near future. It would surely need to be a private enterprise, or Chinese. No doubt. I was just replying to someone's question about why we would go back in the first place. It's too bad we're so invested in killing each other. It reminds me of the early humans in 2001:A Space Odyssey, fighting over the watering hole. We really haven't come very far in terms of our own primitive nature. Cavemen with Cadi... [More]

Do youself a favor and rent "Moon" starring Sam Rockwell. It's an intelligent sci-fi flick with a realistic foundation. I don't know about the DVD but on the Blu-ray there is a special feature showing how they screened the film at NASA. The reason he is on the moon is to basically maintain these big machines that extract some sort of fuel from the soil... I forget what the fuel is but it's apparently a very real possibility. The best part is that the machines roll over the surface, churn up the moon soil, extract the fuel through a chemical process, and then return the soil to the ground behin... [More]

A bit longer than a decade ago, the world was doubling it's knowledge every three to five years. Today, what do you suppose it would be? I think in 5 more years, we will be able to double our scientific knowledge... [More]

Elevators as you explain here are so in the past and still in use today here on earth but science will proceed and one day they will accomplish this goal, Just a suggestion , Maybe you should do a search on space elevators and you would be surprised at the new world you can explore, Nano technology is coming and soon, Oh yes, and that is why the government is funding the elevator research, because it is so in the past. Maybe. Out of Los Alamos: http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2003-09/danl-sac090903.php Why is NASA interested in it? http://science.nasa.gov/search/?q=space+elevator
