Two genes have been identified that are thought to determine how much of a craving you have for coffee.
The gene can come in a high or low consumption variety and is directly linked to how quickly you metabolise coffee and how much you crave for more. "The point here is that the way we drink caffeine is not just random," says Dr Neil Caporaso of the National Cancer Institute.
Dr Caporaso along with colleagues from the Harvard School of Public Health and the University of North Carolina, reported these findings in the journal PLoS Genetics. Globally, caffeine is the most popular psychoactive substance, with 90 per cent of people in the world consuming some form of it.
