The Aerofex hover vehicle resembles the speeder bikes from the movie 'Star Wars: Return of the Jedi'.
The bike is based on a design from the 1960s which had to be scrapped at the time due to instability problems. California-based firm Aerofex has not only come up with ways to resolve these issues but has succeeded in producing a fully working version. Once deemed safe for consumers the hovering bikes could be used for all manner of purposes from moving heavy loads to providing quick and efficient transport over desert terrain without requiring a pilot's license.
The current version of the vehicle is capable of hovering 15ft in the air and can travel at 30mph however this is more for safety reasons than technical limitations. In theory the hover bikes could travel almost as fast as a helicopter.
"A resurrected hover vehicle won't fly through dense forests as effortlessly as the "Star Wars" speeder bikes from "Return of the Jedi," but its intuitive controls could someday allow anyone to fly it without pilot training."
