2014's top conspiracy theories revealed

From Ebola to the Rosetta mission, this year has seen more than its fair share of conspiracy theories.
The first notable conspiracy of the year arose back in January when the "polar vortex" that swamped the United States with a blanket of snow was accused of being the result of a geo-engineering experiment.

Elsewhere British Prime Minister David Cameron was suspected of rigging the Scottish independence referendum while the Virgin Galactic crash in October was attributed to sabotage.

One of the most widespread conspiracy theories towards the end of the year was that the comet being investigated by ESA's Rosetta spacecraft was actually an extraterrestrial spaceship.
The Ebola outbreak was also hotly discussed with some theorists suggesting that the disease was actually a biological weapon being used to give Obama an excuse to declare martial law.

Other conspiracy theories included the idea that Malaysia Airlines flights MH-17 and MH-370 were the same plane and the notion that ISIL is actually the joint creation of Israel and the CIA.

Even the world of music didn't emerge from the year unscathed with artists Rihanna, Jay Z, Kanye West and Beyoncé all being accused of being members of the Illuminati.
