Several workers started to scream hysterically in a bizarre spate of incidents at a factory in Swaziland.
Operations came to a standstill at the Kasumi Apparels facility in Matsapha a week last Friday when two workers who inexplicably collapsed began screaming and writhing around on the floor.
Things went from bad to worse when three more female workers took ill the following Monday and started claiming that they were seeing strange things in the building that nobody else could see. Two others also seemed to fall victim to the peculiar affliction shortly afterwards and started exhibiting similar symptoms.
"We do not know what is happening as this has never occurred before," said one worker. "We are worried now as we have also learnt that we may be laid off from work for two weeks."
The incidents were initially attributed to an attack by evil spirits, which prompted a visit from a local pastor, however further analysis suggested that the phenomenon may have been caused by workers inhaling leaking fumes from a substance used in the manufacturing process.
Reports indicate that another Kasumi Apparels factory in Swaziland experienced a similar incident last year resulting in its workers having to be evacuated for several days while the fumes subsided.
